Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

Not much I can disagree with in your post . . . my comments were aimed at the wolfpack who exist solely to rip on denominations not of their liking. They have about as much in common with Christian fundamentalism as the Fred Phelps freak show has in common with Baptists.

I could name names, but I wouldn't want to give them the publicity. Most of us know who they are anyway.

They pretty much self-identify by calling for back-up anytime anyone disagrees with this disagreeable sorry bunch. I don't even bother to read their cut and paste drivel, much lest respond to it.

Because they wish to be members of the church Christ Himself founded, because they wish to partake of His Flesh and Blood, per His words in the gospel...Because they understand the rather obvious difference between Sola Fide and Sola Gratia.

Little reason like that, I guess.

“Enemies of the Church, they are, certainly, and to say that there are none worse, is not straying from the truth. It is not from the outside but from the inside of the Church that they are planning its ruin” - St. Pius X, Pascendi

What denominations do the Protestant Christians from various mainstream denominations, that you label “wolf Pack” rip on?

Did Pope John Paul II address Mormonism, does the Catholic denomination address Mormonism?

The only thing I would add is that it is the pillar and foundation of truth.

This is a good question because no longer do popes make it clear that one must be Catholic for salvation. They’re too busy taking part in non-Catholic ceremonies, kissing false religious holy books, asking Catholic saints to protect diabolical religions and promoting false ecumenism.

Do you think that the Catholic denomination’s leadership is more accepting of Mormonism?

I don't know; but it's certainly more accepting of Islam.

"The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."
Catechism of the Catholic Church

One must have faith in Christ for salvation. Being catholic, baptist, Methodist doesn’t get it done.

Funny, I always thought it was about realizing you were a sinner and in need of salvation that comes from repentence and faith in Christ.

It's a both/and. Jesus identifies Himself with His Church ("Saul, why do you persecute me?"), which is why he tells us to "listen to the church."

Ignore the Church, ignore Christ.

I often ask myself that very question. Quite befuddling actually.

Try reading the Catechism. Start with whatever teaching strikes you as the strangest. You might be surprised at what you find.

They occupy the first place amongst those who acknowledge the Creator, i.e., non-Jewish theists. They come after Christians and Jews, since their understanding of the nature of God is far less perfect.

“Let us all follow the bishop as Jesus follows his Father”. St. Ignatius of Antioch (107 AD)

And in Scripture, Jesus commands us to follow HIM, not other men.

That is what a Protestant would say no doubt. However, the Traditional teaching of Christ's Church, the Catholic Church is that part of having faith in Christ includes being a member of His Church, the Catholic Church. Therefore, extra Ecclesiam nulla salus.

I would say "severely disordered."
