Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

present active veneror, present infinitive venerārī, perfect active venerātus sum (deponent) 1.I worship, adore, revere, venerate 2.I pay (my) respects

Ah! Look at that. Multiple definitions. Which means that it takes more than assigning a word to an action for it hold the meaning that some want it to. Conflation on display. But rather than admit the sin of Calumny the protestant will persist in their sin. God will not look favorably upon those supposed of His followers who bore false witness.

I don’t get why protestant churches don’t even use real alcoholic wine for communion. They don’t even call it wine. They typically call it “the cup”.

There’s only one way.

You're absolutely right, there's only one way. But that does not mean that protestants have the authority or the competence to determine the boundaries of that one way. That authority was given to one person: Peter and his successors. Not to the reformers, not to the prosperity gospelers, not to the proponents of the latest and greatest post-modern iteration of the Word in order to conform to the current trends of the era. Peter and Christ's Church. The One, True Faith. Not the bastardized imitations we see before us.

>>The protestant does not rely on the bible.<<

You just said they relied on Sola Scriptura but now say they don't rely on scripture? Are you having an internal struggle or just so at a loss you're just throwing anything out there?

catholics (Sic) try to get around mary (sic) worship by saying they don't give her the worship due God. by this statement they acknowledge they worship Mary...just not in the same way they do God. it's a complete play on semantics with catholics (Sic).

You are wrong

Ah! Look at that. Multiple definitions

and they all convey the same meaning.

The facts:

you have an idol of mary

you kneel before the idol of mary

you pray to mary

if that's not worship I don't know what is.

Who said they were two different things? If anything, sola scriptura is the embodiment of the internal struggle of protestants to align their own lives with the Word of God and failing to do so they make the necessary adjustments to the Word so there is no conflict.

Try again dear.

>>The one thing that protestant can never do is establish a motive to worship as God the relic of a saint and Mary.<<

The Catholic Church did that by openly admitting they incorporated pagan practices, vestments, and rituals. They don't understand but the motivation comes from Satan.

>>In the end it's all about, "I don't like that." I'm gonna go find me a scripture passage that appears to agree with me etc., ad nauseam.<<

Well, let's see Catholics defend their beliefs with scripture. You could start with a central tennent of Catholicism the assumption of Mary.

So, if the words: honor, venerate, and worship are interchangeable and the protestant has no intellectual compunction about conflating them, why are they to be believed when it comes to their interpretation of the Word?

Well, for starters we don't pray to mary which avoids the whole conversation.

There is zero, repeat zero, scriptural support for praying to mary.

The notion of praying to mary is completely man-made; hence it is satan inspired. Satan would have people pray to anyone other than God.

The latin word veneror, as I noted earlier, is a verb meaning to worship, adore, revere, venerate.

Notice that worship is first conveying the primary meaning of the word while venerate is last.

If you understand how a dictionary works, the primary meaning of a word is listed first.

But if it makes you feel better you call it what you want. But words matter.

you have an idol of mary

Objection. Facts not in evidence. An idol is an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship. Unless you can determine that is actually the case then the rest does not follow. Therefore there is no idolatry. No pagan goddess worship.

Nothing but bearing false witness.

Why should I? I'm not a protestant. I have both sides of the same coin (Tradition and Scripture). Your playground is missing some sand.

Acts 15:8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

Do I really new to Bible Catholics use to the Hebrew and Greek again? Talk about adjustments. They started “adjusting” already in Genesis. Shall we go there?

do I really have to put the pictures of the idols of mary found in catholic churches or parishioners bowing down to her?

As you well know...there's lot's more. But persist in the belief catholics don't worship mary or have idols of her.

Pagans used their idols as representative of the gods they worshipped. Catholics use idols as representative of who they worship.
