Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

All are equally obligated to obey the commandments. That's true. All are. And none can.

Mary could

Could Mary read? After-all; she was an obscure teen aged Jewish girl betrothed to a carpenter. She'd likely be illiterate, right?

>> “I’ve got news for you. It was reestablished as a nation in its own land in 1948.” <<

.
A common misunderstanding of those not familiar with prophecy.

Judah was established as a nation in part of its own land in 1948. That prophecy calling for that was only for Judah.

Judah is a minuscule part of Israel, less than 2% by most competent estimates.

>> “Yeah right. That’s why it’s called the time of Jacob’s trouble right?” <<

.
It appears that you are still rejecting the word of God.

“Jacob” is mostly who Yeshua came to save, although he has always embraced those willing to join Jacob.

No one on Earth can estimate how many will join Jacob, but every day it looks like less and less will be interested.

The remnant of Jacob that keep his commandments will escape Satan’s tribulation in a safe place on Earth; those that do not will face a battle for the hope of eternal life, and their only hope is to reject the mark, if they can.

Thank you very much.

I think what you said covers that last little bundle of near-impossible theoretical inventions that was brought here to these pages...

You and the Catholics just keep on trying to earn your salivation. That “break one you’ve broken them all” is going to end up not working well for you.

>>You are dreaming!<<

Romans 3:22 and the righteousness of God is through the faith of Jesus Christ to all, and upon all those believing, -- for there is no difference,

Ephesians 6:14 Stand, therefore, having your loins girt about in truth, and having put on the breastplate of the righteousness,

1 Corinthians 1:30 and of Him ye -- ye are in Christ Jesus, who became to us from God wisdom, righteousness also, and sanctification, and redemption,

2 Corinthians 5:21 - For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him

Philippians 3:9 - And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith

Romans 5:17 - For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.

You go right ahead and try to earn your righteousness. I will trust in Christ alone and the gift of righteousness through Him.

Catholics think Jesus’ Mom can make Him do what they want. Don’t look for any logic or common sense from them.

No, it was all of Israel. And they rejected Christ for which God hardened them hearts until.

“a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in”

Read Romans 11. It appears that you are still rejecting the word of God.

Or from a follower of Michael Rood who my comment was made to. Both they and the Catholics would put us back under the law.

do your own research, I have read that as few as 10% of the people in the Roman empire could read and write.

NO.

You made the contention that most people were illiterate. It's up to you to prove it.

Nobody is going to accept what you state as fact when you provide nothing with which to back up your assertions.

It's not a matter of whatever someone claims is true until it's proved to be false.

Nobody is obligated to believe that what anyone else states IS true unless they provide compelling evidence that it is.

As of yet, you have not.

*I read it somewhere* doesn't qualify.

I read Catholic claims concerning Mary and wonder how Catholics claim they HAVE NOT deified Mary and that they do not worship her as a goddess.

Imposing modern concepts on ancient realities is always problematic.

Illiteracy wasn’t quite the same before the printing press. There was memorization of texts and the words of one’s teachers, corrected by others who memorized the same things. This style of learning can be practiced by otherwise very much occupied people. (This style of learning is still practiced by traditional Jews).

Hebrew writing especially, with no vowels or punctuation, could not be understood from the text-only as can an English-language book.

Romans 3:23.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

All means all. His Commandments may not be onerous but fallen man can’t hope to keep them perfectly. Which, come to think of it, is why we need a Savior.

No, even if we keep them perfectly, we still need a savior.

This is what the easy believers here completely miss.

There are many that keep his commandments perfectly, they are not difficult to keep, but they are not the source of our justification, only the source of his pleasure.

Believing!

You keep on missing that word.

Believers keep his commandments.

This foolish statement typifies your total lack of understanding of the gospel of the kingdom.

Nothing in the scriptures makes any connection between believers keeping his commandments out of love, and self justification thereby.

Pre-trib Dispensationalism is Satan’s biggest weapon, it completely disables the mind through sloth.
