Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

>>and using removing the immoral brother from fellowship is a novel euphemism for delivering a man over to death.<<

Surely you are not using that to insinuate that they literally killed them.

I vaguely recall a later letter where the Church is advised to restore the man because he repented. That would be a bit difficult if he was slaughtered in response to his heresy.

I'll have to research tomorrow when I'm a bit more alert...

Lest you be confused, let me add. The church in Corinth would not have physically harmed him. They would have pronounced Paul’s judgment on him, his word, like Peter’s word, could bring death or life.

Are you suggesting the Pope can sentence non believers to death? Does this mean he can declare Jihad and Fatwahs?

You did say that Jesus commanded it.

No I didn't, I said that there is a commandment to keep holy the sabbath...I didn't say that Jesus issued it....His father did.

The Sabbath begins at sundown on what you pagans call Friday. There is no scripture whatsoever that supports changing the Sabbath to a pagan day.

just to be safe, the Catholics have Mass EVERY day so as to satisfy those who choose to make the Sabbath whatever day they desire....got all bases covered here!!

All of Paul’s letters were completed almost 300 years before the Roman catholic church was founded.

that, then would be one thousand 300 years before any protestant denomination was founded. Actually, Pauls letters were written as the Catholic church was in it's infancy. Christ founded His church on the apostles and the church grew as the various apostolic letters and proclamations were being made. Luckily for all of us, the Catholics wrote them down, collected them, copied them (by hand) for 1600 years, until the printing press was invented....thus you have an authentic Catholic bible to read!!

Instead of relying on man-made solutions you could simply ask Him.

Those who serve Him hear his voice.

I said the church of Rome is basically invisible in Scripture, and now you have confirmed it. At you were honesty.

let's see now, the Catholic church was founded by Christ approx. 2,014 years ago....learned peopple have studied the scriptures, for than legth of time and until a few hundred years ago, all agreed that what was in the bible was the absulute truth.

along came protesters and decided that they were better prepared, somehow, to interpret what the Catholic bible said.

now you come along, probably born in the 50's 60's or 70's and after weeks or months of diligent study of the bible, has come up with your own interpretation and determined that the Catholic church has been in error for 2 centuries.......O.K. I guess

They should have STAYED infants; for when they grew up; they were not worth a damn!

#1463 seems to disagree with what the Catholic church teaches today. Any thoughts

I actually went back and read your highly touted 1463 and was not impressed.

Izzat so??

In 1440, German inventor Johannes Gutenberg invented a printing press process that, with refinements and increased mechanization, remained the principal means of printing until the late 20th century.

Is THAT not PROOF that RCC's modern teaching about Mary is WRONG??

the Catholic church does NOT teach that Mary didn't die, she teaches that Mary was assumed(taken) into heaven....why is that so hard for you to understand???

I actually went back and read your lowly responses and was alnot impressed. You only offer typical rote reposes from a RC indoctrination, will little application of Scripture (i.e.: THE WORD OF GOD!!!).

Checkmate!

...was not impressed.

Of course not!

Today's church teaching is what today's Catholics believe; not what was taught in the past.

I might have to do that!!! How did YOU do it?

the discussion was on purgatory. I haven't done so yet, but if I die I am willing (actually no choice) to spend some time in purgatory to insure that I arrive in Heaven in a state of perfect purity. You will face the same destiny and once there, you will appreciate the fact that you didn't deserve hell which lasts a long time!!

After all the confusion I thought it best to write that before, not after, I was stoned. I was a little late.
