Justin Welby says he asks himself ‘is there a God?’ and says Christians cannot explain why there is suffering in the world
The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, has disclosed that he questions whether God exists.
Britain’s most senior churchman, who is effectively the leader of almost 80 million Anglicans worldwide, admitted that there are moments when he asks himself “Is there a God?” and “Where is God?
He also said that Christians cannot explain why suffering exists in the world but that the answer was faith.
His remarks came in an interview conducted as part of a service at Bristol Cathedral, during a visit to the diocese.
Asked whether, despite his high profile as a religious leader, he ever struggles with doubt, he said: “Yes I do.
“I mean there are moments, sure, where you think ‘is there a God?’, ‘Where is God?’”
He added that there were moments when he was struck with doubts even while praying, including during his regular morning jogs near Lambeth Palace.
“I love the Psalms, if you look at Psalm 88, that’s full of doubt,” he told the congregation.
“I go, well I call it running, the dog calls it holding her back, in the morning.
“The other day I was praying over something as I was running and I ended up saying to God ‘Look this is all very well but isn’t it about time you did something – if you’re there’ – which is probably not what the Archbishop of Canterbury should say.”

Why is there suffering? So we might show compassion.
Why is there poverty? So we might show charity.
Why is there war and violence? So we might crave peace.
It’s very hard to know light without dark, hot without cold, and redemption without failure.
Not so fast -- the anglicans are the closest thing protestants have to catholics. This guy is on your page, not ours. He is on Mother Teresa's page about the Dark Night of the Soul.
Anglicans, like catholics, reject the idea of the priesthood of every believer; protestants affirm it.
Protestants understand that the heart is desperately wicked; that man has free choice at the present time and often chooses tyranny and debauchery.
Protestants affirm that every believer is to study to show one's self approved unto God, rightly dividing the word of truth. Catholics think that is the job of the magisterium. Protestants agree with Peter that it is the job of every believer to be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks about the hope that we have. Catholics think that is the job of the clergy.
So, not so fast.
Any ecclesiastic who starts their prayer with “to whom it may concern” needs to reassess their career goals.

Why the CofE, TEC, ACC are in the toilet and the Anglican Communion is torn apart — the aging hippies running the provinces, dioceses, and parishes can’t even acknowledge the existence of God. Game over. Satan wins.
Apparently the dear Anglican “bishop” should ask God when He sent His beloved son to be tortured and put to death. This is the curse of both Protestantism and Episcopalianism, it allows just about anyone to understand scripture the way he or she individually does and then run wild with it. This is why we are now told by the American Lutheran Church on how gay marriage is sanctioned by scripture. These sects are wicked consequences of the Reformation where each man/woman think they can give scripture their “own” interpretation and this spawns the likes of David Koresh, Jim Jones, Joel Osteen. Rick Warren, TD Jakes and every other Tom, Dick, and Harry.
If this twit had any guts, he’d say there is no Allah. But, it’s always easier to question the existence of the religious icon of a peaceful following. If he questioned the existence of Allah, he’d have to move in with Salman Rushdie.
Why did God create diseases? How would it limit our Free Will if there had never been any communicable diseases?

God created all the bugs. Within us exist a great many of those bugs, some of which keep us alive. Many of the other bugs live within us, and then, for some reason, go “bad.” Ancient medicine said it was because of an inbalance of “humors “Maybe there is something to that. Maybe it is we who, for some reason, go bad. A grain of truth, perhaps in Christian Science?
