And what "disrespect" was that?

There was no disrespect aimed at her that I could see.

What is plainer to the eye is that particular aspects of beliefs regarding "Mary", are what have possibly suffered this alleged disrespect which you speak of.

Can you see what I am talking about?

One is a person. The other is attitudes of yet other persons, for that first person.

The two are not one and the same thing.

To conflate the two, the person herself, and attitudes of others in regards to her, for being her, is to make her to be what yet others may believe of her, when in more precise truth, she is what she is, a person -- regardless of who thinks what concerning beliefs of some in regards to her.

That leaves it to be that the one known as "Mary" in any way in actual fact has been treated disrespectfully, personally herself be an impossibility; unless she is both a human being, and the thoughts/ideas/theology associated with and in regards to her, all at the same time.

That is, unless there was something I missed where someone openly expressed disrespect for her own person directly, then please feel free to direct me towards that comment, and I will amend my here own comment, provided it be clear that it truly be Mary herself disrespected rather than attitudes towards this "Mary" we are speaking of being not shared or in some manner disagreed with, instead.

I do suggest that to the degree that some form of dual-reality existence for her be unconsciously, or less-than fully consciously accepted or regarded as article of faith itself, and the two differing things (the person herself and beliefs about her) fully conflated as being one-and-the-same, is just about as far as she herself has become idolized if not also otherwise semi-deified --- with the latter sort of things being what is being disagreed with or objected to --- rather than Mary herself being spoken ill of.

Mary is neither poor nor sorrowful. She is the Mother of God. :)

John 14:18 “I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you.”
Galatians 4:4-7
“But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.”
Romans 8:14-17 “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God”
(and this is found in the Douay (catholic) Bible

The more I learn about Catholicism the more appalled I am. The concept of Mary being “gueen of heaven and “ Holy mother” originated in Ephisus where the temple to Dianna the “queen of heaven” was located. Paul had some contention with the church there. It’s striking that the church of Eephisus is also chastised in Revelation.

I think you meant to say “Queen” and Ephesus.

Mary supposedly lived in Ephesus with John. Other versions say she lived in Jerusalem.

Some people I know have visited the site in Ephesus and it is somehow connected, if I remember correctly, with the kind of stone found in the Jerusalem area.

I’m sure she is quite happy there and not reading FR threads, great site though it is...
All those who disregard or downplay Mary's importance, better hope she doesn't read Free Republic.

Personally, I think she tunes in. :)

Fat fingers on a small phone once again. Getting older hasn’t helped the eyesight any either. I don’t think there is any difinetive proof of where Mary spent her last years. I do believe the church in Ephesus “Christianized” the concept of “queen of heaven” to placate the pagan Ephesions and the nmerchants who sold the trinkets. The Catholic Church has done that with many pagan customs to attract pagans to their church.

Catholics do like their shrines don’t they. Even if they may have been of pagan origin.

I seriously think you need to research the pagan origins of so much of the Catholic Church and its teachings.

There was no disrespect aimed at her that I could see.
One of the reasons non-Catholic Christians are not loving Mary, and honoring her, for saying "yes," as the Catholics do, is because they'd then be led to be Catholics themselves, and few anti-Catholic-type Christians would ever allow that to happen. So they treat Mary's import with disdain; and that is disrespectful. She's the mother of Jesus; God chose her. That should be good enough for every believer to be forever grateful [to both Him and to her].

I seriously think you need to research the pagan origins of so much of the Catholic Church and its teachings.

e Twentieth Century Encyclopedia of Catholicism says the following: The missionary history of the [Catholic] Church clearly shows her adaptability to all races, all continents, all nations. In her liturgy and her art, in her tradition and the forming of her doctrine, naturally enough she includes Jewish elements, but also elements that are of pagan origin. In certain respects, she has copied her organization from that of the Roman Empire, has preserved and made fruitful the philosophical intuitions of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, borrowed from both Barbarians and the Byzantine Roman Empire—but always remains herself, thoroughly digesting all elements drawn from external sources...In her laws, her ceremonies, her festivals and her devotions, she makes use of local customs after purifying them and "baptizing" them.
