In the case of the Pope, his infallibility only extends to solemnly proclaimed teachings on Faith and morals intended to be binding on the whole Church. In other areas, he may have authority (Church legislation, laws of Vatican City), mere human expertise on a subject in which he is well-versed (Theology, Philosophy), or regular run of the mill human opinion. The infallibility part is only part of God's promise to St. Peter regarding the Gates of Hell.

The Church is a composite Institution, and is Holy in as much as it is Instituted by Christ, but still full of sinners, often sinning in the name of the Church. Through a continuous line of Bishops going back the Apostles, God Himself has touched every one of them. In part because of my Faith in the Gospel of St. John (chapter 6), I believe God meant for mere men to provide us with His Body and Blood under the form of bread.

Your instinct to test everything is a good one. And while God IS completely accessible, he has decided to place a veil so that we can live by Faith, and the risk is to use accessibility to God to justify ourselves. It is a risk for every man.

You are confused. The Word of God spreading around the world changed the world. Things printed...literature, etc...that's nice. But it is the Word of God that changed the world. Not to interfere but you need to let go of the Catholic thing and put your focus on the Lord.

seeing that the Catholic church was the ONLY source for Christian information to be spread throughout the world, it was, of course, the reason that so many people became educated in what Christianity really was. Since the written word was not, until the 16th century, a very effective means of spreading anything. The people attended Mass, heard the entire bible preached over a three year period, experienced pictures, statues, decorated stained glass windows, and were members of the only Christian family in the world.....That's how the word of God was spread.....not by a mega-preacher on TV.

No, they did not.

Pre-Vatican II, only about 1% of the Old Testament was covered, and about 16% of the New Testament.

The current one, read on Sundays and major feast days, covers about 40% of the NT and 4% of the Old.

The NRSV is in the tradition of the King James - tries to preserve its style and flow but in modern English instead of the dated 17th Century Jacobean English used in the KJV.

Its literally accurate, which is why all the academic study Bibles - Access, New Intepreter’s, HarperCollins and New Oxford Annotated rely upon it.

The version strikes a nice balance between gender inclusiveness and customary English usage. If you’re looking for a literal readable translation, its a good one because its also ecumenical in intent and appeal.
