Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen.

So there is no end of the world?
(Not even in 5 billion years when the sun burns out?)
To: UnbelievingScumOnTheOtherSide
Only God knows the answer to that question.

The Latin is “In saecula saeculorum” — literally, “in ages of ages,” which was an idiom meaning simply “forever.”
“World without end” is a mistranslation stemming from later translators’ lack of knowledge.
Saint Jerome had access to numerous resources that ceased to exist in a few more centuries.

In Spanish, it's por los siglos de los siglos, "for centuries of centuries."

I like both of those translations better.

Spanish, like Latin, can have just overwhelming numbers of syllables. “World without end” may not be the best rendering of the original phrase, but it fits in a song a lot better than the alternatives!

Maybe, but it doesn’t make sense. We know this world will end, because God has said so.

Am I right that it won’t be a flood, but it will be fire?

St. Peter in his letters, iirc, says everything will be destroyed with fire ... but it’s possible that’s a metaphor. A flood couldn’t destroy everything, since there’s no water source outside the earth!

The physical world will indeed end with the Second Coming of Christ, but the prayer is referring to the world without regard to its material wrapper.

I hated it when it came out and I had to listen to three INTERMINABLE seconds of it to remember how much I hated it.
Gad, were we ever THAT corny?
I guess we were.

==================================
We have even LESS time, only 4.6 billion years.
However, by then who knows where we human will be. We may be living under the sea. We might even be extinct. God made us and he could UNmake us with a "poof" of a thought.
I'm hedging my bets by being as good as I can be as often as I can be.

“Am I right that it wont be a flood, but it will be fire?”
And people have been wondering if it is to be a nuclear fire since before I was born.

I also have wondered that.
