DOHA (Reuters) - An influential group of Islamic scholars has denounced the forced expulsion of Christians from northern Iraq by Islamist hardliners, saying it paves the way for fighting between the country's ethnic and religious groups.
The Christian community of Mosul fled to the Kurdish autonomous region last week, ending a presence stretching back nearly 2,000 years, after Islamic State militants set them a deadline to submit to their rule or leave.
"The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) condemns the forced expulsion of the Christian brothers of Iraq from their homes, cities and provinces," the group said in a statement posted on the website of its leader, the influential cleric Sheikh Youssef al-Qaradawi on Tuesday.
"These are acts that violate Islamic laws, Islamic conscience and leave but a negative image of Islam and Muslims."
The IUMS, comprising senior Sunni religious scholars from around the world with links to more moderate factions of the Muslim Brotherhood, views the Islamic State, which has taken control of a swathe of northern Iraq, as being too extreme and says its doctrine contradicts the true teachings of Islam

Agree. They must be on the verge of getting some kind of grant from Hussein Obama or something.
These “influential” scholars have certainly kept quiet until now. What, did the paper boy arrive on a camel to deliver the news of all those neighborhood crucifixions? They know nothing, see nothing until just now? Isis has been throwing bishops out of churches maybe since December. Maybe the see if you remove all the old culture, you remove most reasons for tourism, thus no income. Look what happened to Egypt.
bttt
They “condemn(s) the forced expulsion of the Christian brothers of Iraq from their homes, cities and provinces,” saying “These are acts that violate Islamic laws, Islamic conscience and leave but a negative image of Islam and Muslims.”
Hell has not frozen over. They are merely referring to Islamic law that calls for converting, taxing, or killing Christians. Allowing them to flee is not Islamic. Dead Christians don’t talk. These people have escaped Islam, and are now able to tell the world what is happening thus creating “a negative image of Islam and Muslims”.
Which Islamic laws exactly do they violate? I take the quran at its word as regards mayhem. I don't know whether these guys are practicing taqyyaa or are just nuts.
The problem with Islamic scholars. Too much scholarship and not enough activism!
Can't wait to see the outrage from CAIR condemning those Islamists..

Darn my browser must have dropped CAIR's comments supporting Christians and condemning the Islamists.
The first time I’ve ever seen an influential group of Muslims give a rats arse what anyone else in the world thinks of them.
But ISIS made “fleeing” a fourth choice as of late.
Got to remember that we are dealing with a religion that comes strait from the devil.
