The Hermeneutic of...Oh I Give Up.

Some Papal Quotes that somehow and in some way beyond my meager intellect are in continuity with each other, or something.

First Quote

Pope Eugene IV, the Bull Cantate Domino, 1441. ex cathedra (infallibly defined):
“The most Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that none of those existing outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but also Jews and heretics and schismatics, can have a share in life eternal; but that they will go into the eternal fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless before death they are joined with Her; and that so important is the unity of this ecclesiastical body that only those remaining within this unity can profit by the sacraments of the Church unto salvation, and they alone can receive an eternal recompense for their fasts, their almsgivings, their other works of Christian piety and the duties of a Christian soldier. No one, let his almsgiving be as great as it may, no one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he has persevered within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.” http://www.ewtn.com/library/COUNCILS/FLORENCE.HTM#4

Second Quote

“I’m not interested in converting Evangelicals to Catholicism. I want people to find Jesus in their own community. There are so many doctrines we will never agree on. Let’s not spend our time on those. Rather, let’s be about showing the love of Jesus.” --Pope Francis 2014

Yeah. Umm. So. Discuss. Or something.

Bonus Quotes for discussion purposes.

Pope PIUS IX, the Holy Office-- THE SYLLABUS OF ERRORS CONDEMNED :
15. Every man is free to embrace and profess that religion which, guided by the light of reason, he shall consider true. --condemned Allocution "Maxima quidem," June 9, 1862; Damnatio "Multiplices inter," June 10, 1851.
16. Man may, in the observance of any religion whatever, find the way of eternal salvation, and arrive at eternal salvation. --condemned Encyclical "Qui pluribus," Nov. 9, 1846.
17. Good hope at least is to be entertained of the eternal salvation of all those who are not at all in the true Church of Christ. -- condemned
Encyclical "Quanto conficiamur," Aug. 10, 1863, etc.

18. Protestantism is nothing more than another form of the same true Christian religion, in which form it is given to please God equally as in the Catholic Church. --condemned Encyclical "Noscitis," Dec. 8, 1849.

Indoctrination by the Catholic Church has blinded them to the truth of scripture.

Martin Luther offered the Lord as a sacrifice, after his apostasy.

Not just the truth of the scripture but the validity of the scriptures as well...

I for one don’t follow Luther. He was a Catholic and retained many of the Catholic errors so I’m not sure why you bring him up so much.

Hindus are closer...They were here when Jesus was born...Don't you even consider what an illogical argument you have...

So were the Jews. Talk about illogical.

That's not illogical at all...The Jews are God's chosen people...They are closer to God than any of us...

“Was” is the operative term. He died a Protestant. His false religion created many offshoots; I don’t know if you’re in one of those offshoot sects.

Are you a Jew? If not, how soon do you plan to convert?

Without regard to the spirit... self-righteous... hypocritical...

Wow you are leaping to some rash judgements there. Where have I been self righteous, hypocritical or ignored the spirit?

Not really...I'm part of one of those groups of Christian who were around long before Martin Luther that your religion tried to annihilate...

Which group? Could you name it? The Arians, perhaps? The were pre-Luther.

There. Much better. The Jewish people were chosen to bring forth Christ, the Savior. That being fulfilled there status as the chosen people has been supplanted by the New Covenenant, which they reject. There is nothing inherently salvific about the Jew.

I wasn’t quoting I was making an allusion. If you think I believe all Catholics are saved then you’re reading the wrong mind. In the States only 25% practice the Faith and more than half of them don’t believe what the Church teaches. No, I fear the saved are very few in number.

“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’ “

Wow you are leaping to some rash judgements there.

Seriously...?

You are the one who says I am destined to hell because I did not belong to the "RC Church"

I can certainly understand if you think I am destined for "purgatory" (another Catholic fantasy) for my failure to bow to Rome, but to destined to hell even though I believe exactly as you do on the fundamental of the faith...minus being adherent to Rome

self-righteous: Yes

hypocritical: Yes.

The difference between you and myself is I think you are heaven bound even though we have theological difference, mostly minor... as opposed to you which is strident in my "lostness"

Sorry, God's not done with his people yet...They were promised some land and a Kingdom...God's not slack concerning his promises...They'll get that land and that Kingdom...

>> That being fulfilled there status as the chosen people has been supplanted by the New Covenenant, which they reject.<<

Romans 11: 25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. 28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the father's sakes. 29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

”until the fullness of the Gentiles come in” should give you a hint that it means God is not finished dealing with Israel as His chosen people for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance” meaning God called them to be His people and He will not repent of that. Those who think that Israel has been replaced or superseded are in for a rude awakening.

And we have God's promise that the Holy Spirit will lead us into all Truth. I'm sure He's not slacking on that one either...
