Islamic prayers to be held at the Vatican

For the first time in history, Islamic prayers and readings from the Quran will be heard at the Vatican on Sunday, in a move by Pope Francis to usher in peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Francis issued the invitation to Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas during his visit last week to Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority.

Abbas, Peres, and Francis will be joined by Jewish, Christian and Islamic religious leaders, a statement released by Peres’s spokesperson said, according to the Times of Israel.

Holy See officials on Friday said the evening prayers would be a “pause in politics” and had no political aim other than to rekindle the desire for Israeli-Palestinian peace at the political and popular level, according to the Associated Press.

Low expectations

The Vatican will broadcast a live feed of the event to viewers across the world.

However, expectations for the event should be kept low, according to Rev. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the custodian of Catholic Church property in the Holy Land.

[No-one should think] “peace will suddenly break out on Monday, or that peace is any closer,” AP reported him as saying.

On Friday, the Pope met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and discussed ways of promoting peace and stability in Asia the Vatican said in a statement.

I don’t think that many here consider you knowledgeable about much, regardless of where your husband took you to live.

In my opinion, Muslims will see preaching Allah to the Catholic Pope inside the Vatican, as a territorial victory.

For Muslims this is big and a part of their global march and cultural victories over the West, judging by the Christians on this thread, most Christians see it as a victory for Islam as well, in fact everyone as I count, except for you.

The Lord identifies Himself many times in the Bible as “the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” But Muslims rewrite the Bible (while claiming that it’s Jews and Christians that have), and says that it was Ishmael, not Isaac, who was the one chosen by God to be the father of God’s people.

Not an ‘anti-pope,’ just the fulfillment of prophecy.

The time of persecution draws near...look up...

Vicar of Christ will fulfill prophecy...

Grasp that idea and then go find your peace with God...

for the great persecution is about to begin...

they do more than rewrite the Bible....

Wasn't Abraham the father of the Jews? And due to his faithfulness in willing to sacrifice Isaac, God promised that the covenant would pass through to Isaac and not Ishmael? Genesis records that Isaac is Abraham's son, his only son on several occasions.

Isn’t it wonderful that we’re all getting along now?

I wonder if they invited the late Rodney King?

Abraham’s first son, thru adultery, was Ishmael - father of the Islamic line.
Abraham’s first son thru marriage was Isaac - father of the Jewish (and hence Cheistian) line.

Question is whether the bastard is disqualified of ancestral headship.
And hence confusion reigns.

Muslims respect Catholics/Christians because we are all "People of the Book." (the Bible)

There is no mention of muslims in the Bible; you may have your Koran confused with your Bible.

As far as muslims supposedly respecting Catholics, how do you explain Syria?

The words of the Koran, laced with Biblical words, were recited in a trance by Mohammad.

David Koresh and Jim Jones were also prone to trances.

Sorry...the pope establishes catholic doctrine..

Actually, no he doesn't. The pope can't CHANGE established doctrine. For example, he can't add a fourth person to the Holy Trinity.

Yes, and what I’ve heard and see some mention of from Google right now though I don’t have time to read more is that they say it was Ishmael who was the intended sacrifice, not Isaac. I also saw that two places where the Lord called Himself the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were in revealing Himself to Moses in the burning bush, and in the New Testament in Acts 3:13. The Muslims worship a false god, a corrupted idea of the true God.
