Every break of a commandment brings down judgment. God forgave both the apostle Paul and David, but both suffered life long consequences for their actions.

Earthly judgment of individuals is to forestall God's judgment of nations. When we cease to execute justice, God will intervene against the nation.

Mic 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Doing kindness should never be misconstrued as justice.
