The mistake here is assuming that everyone who calls himself a Christian really has, in actuality, experienced the New Birth.

Prescribing these verses to a spiritually dead, deluded sinner is highly dangerous, and can confirm a person in their lost state.

Fw : I agree and disagree. I was a church member from a child, as you said, I thought I was a christian....but slowly slipped away. However when someone reminded me of Jesus's parable of the 99 sheep and the shepherd seeking out the one sheep that was lost and that it was a story of how God was seeking me.

Well I was struck how all heaven would rejoice if I came to God and received Him, that scripture changed my life....The entrance of His brings light...

My point is, many, if not most, of the promises in Scripture are not for the unregenerate sinner. In fact, giving them these "pearls" is tantamount to feeding a corpse - it just promotes rot.

The Promises in Scripture, other than the salvation prescription passages, are for believers ONLY. They cannot make sense to the spiritually dead, and might actually have the effect of creating a false security.

All excellent. One of my favorites that has brought me so much peace and joy comes from John 17:13-26, with the 23rd verse being the key.

My Heavenly Father loves me the same as He loves Jesus. - my paraphrase.

That staggering Truth obliterates all sorts of demonic condemnation, sin conciousness, religious bondage/tradition, and unworthiness/false humility. Quality fellowship with your Father starts with absolutely knowing that you can do nothing to earn His love. Jesus has done everything that could ever be done for you. God gets ALL the Glory!

To me Christ prayer of father make them one in me as I am one in you shows us our destiny, we become one in his blood and life flowing in us..now this is something I have never heard anyone explain or even perceive to discuss. As a child of God who is one I hear the conversation between God and Jesus as it is creation in that conversation, yet have another viewpoint which is mine..as we learn our nature we begin to understand whyvChrist said things like, it is not what goes in your mouth that defiles you, it is what comes out..why is that, is it because as Gods children we take on his attributes, ie what we say creates? All through the scriptures christ is pointing this out...often asking who do you say that I am? He knew whose voice they heard. So we have so called discrepancies to non believers in such verses as when christ was asked, show me the father and he resonded, do you not know me..Christ is One in God, we are one in Christ,,, to see these things in ourselves evokes the supernatural reality formed from faith to furthur understand ourselves and the voices in our head, one day while praying the voice came out asking myself lord who am I, I realised it was not me asking , it was God...please know his life dwells in all as there is no other, that’s why we can’t love God and hate our brothers,,, why, becausethe life in all is God, just younger and older siblings..calling the family of God from the inside....hmmmmm yea I know I am out there...but having seen these things I want to share with my siblings what our nature is to be once we stop crapping our diapers and learn to walk upright before the Lord..as he said, why do you hate me for saying I am the son of God, when your scriptures say you are gods, awaken to the trinity in ourselves...smile

Who am I?

In Christ, I am dead, and my life is hid with Christ in God. "For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God." (Col. 3:3).

For this reason, I am to seek those things which are ABOVE, not on things on the earth. "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth." (Col. 3:1,2).

I am to put no confidence in the outward man, which perishes day by day. (Col. 2:1-23).

I am to be confident that it is the Holy Spirit who is working IN ME, not ME. "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Christ." (Phil. 1:6).

In other words, my focus is UPWARD, not on this earth. Assured that God WILL take care of all He has promised me. The finished work of Christ is my guarantee.
