In intense pain Brendan would shout, “I love you, Bella.” Bella still lives.

As does Brendan. Forever.

Wonderful story, indeed! Most of the children I’ve known with Down’s syndrome have been special—loving and kind.

But it’s clear that Brendan was VERY special! God chooses His saints.

This was my favorite part “That he was rescued that very night is less interesting than, at a moment of abject terror, he asked for the intercession of the boy with Down syndrome and leukemia.”

Tremendous story, thanks for posting it, even though you made me cry.

But it makes the point of what I so often say, saints are real people who lived and died and are now in heaven. It is OK to ask them for help.

(if this double posts, I’m sorry, got distracted for a moment)

I’ve heard of this boy before. I think Rick Santorum penned a beautiful essay about him when he died. But this had more detail about how truly special this boy really was. May God gant him eternal rest in the light of His presence.

I bet he met the pope again ;-)

For to such belongs the kingdom of God (Lk 18:16). Thank you for posting this.

This sounds dreadful to say, but it’s nice that now this little saint is with his Christ, free from pain and suffering. Sad for us left behind on earth, but in heaven, where he surely is, Brendan can pray for us better than he could in life. I have no doubt that the case for canonization is going to be opened in pretty short order because he’ll be able to pray to the Lord for cures. What a blessing it was for those around him to have a junior saint in their lives! And what joy he must now be experiencing in the arms of his Savior (for surely he mounted straight to heaven).

Beautiful story!

I worked with adults with Down syndrome and they are incredibly empathic and aware, so when they’re Christians, they’re all this and more. You learn a great deal from them.

And now, of course, the medical profession and the government want to have them wiped out before birth.
