A Christian Beauty Vies For Miss USA Title
The Christian Diarist ^ | June 2, 2012 | JP

Posted on 06/02/2012 9:36:08 AM PDT by CHRISTIAN DIARIST

The Miss USA pageant will be held tomorrow. I’m praying that Miss Texas – Brittany Booker – wins the crown.

Not just because she is a “stunning, 5’11”, green-eyed model,” as her Miss Texas biography describes her. And not because she looks fabulous in both an evening gown and a swimsuit (both of which are required in the competition).

I’m backing 21-year-old Brittany because she is a devoted Christian.

And while she is beautiful on the outside, she is even more beautiful on the inside.

A Houston native, Brittany was raised in a Christian family, by parents who instilled in her strong morals and ethics. Those values were reinforced at BayArea Christian School, from which young Brittany graduated third in her class.

Miss Texas is a junior at the Universityof Houston, where she majors in psychology/human development and family studies. When she’s not in the classroom, she’s a regular volunteer at Hope Village Home for the Mentally Challenged.

Brittany devotes her Sundays to praise and worship, using the exceptional singing talent the Lord gave her in her church choir.

What I particularly admire about Miss Texas is that she is no closet Christian, hiding her beliefs so that she can get ahead in this fallen world in which we live, this decadent society of ours that has defined deviancy down.

Indeed, Freddie Cullins, former administrator at BayArea Christian School, attests that Brittany “is bold in expressing her personal Christian faith.”

In that trait, Miss Texas brings to mind Carrie Prejean, the former Miss California who controversially finished first runner-up in the 2009 Miss USA pageant.

Prejean, an unabashed Christian, was sandbagged by pageant judge Perez Hilton, the gay Hollywood gossip blogger, who used his final question of the contest to ask her where she stood on same-sex marriage.

Had she danced around the question, Prejean almost certainly would have been crowned Miss USA.

But the young woman stood up for her Christian beliefs. She told Hilton that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

Given Brittany Booker’s boldness is expressing her Christian faith, it would not be surprising if one of the judges of this year’s Miss USA competition deviously decides to ask her a question that could cost her the title.

That’s why I’ve gone on the Miss USA website to vote for Brittany to make the pageant’s semifinals. And that’s why I’m praying the young Christian women wins the crown.

Her breasts look fake

They're so fake they have bar codes.

I wonder who paid for them. If she didn't and neither did Daddy, then who? If she financed them and is still making payments, what happens if she starts missing them? Does the repo man come after her with a scalpel and a local anesthetic?

I suppose that if Paula White can get in the pulpit with a boob job, she can win Miss USA with one.

If recent “Amerrican Idol” shows are any indication ... God ain’t allowin’ ANY o’ His people win these glamor/fame shows.

Devote Christianity includes separation from the world.

What American Idol are YOU watching? The top two in 2011 were devout Christians, especially the Idol Winner Scotty McCreery, who held visibly onto his cross the week his mentor had to be Lady Gaga! And the 2nd runner up this year was a devout Christian. Not sure about the current winner, but the 1st runner up is Catholic.

Ahh...Lost the discussion, so you're trying to spin it in your favor.

Must be a closet democrat.

Spin, shmin ... I'm quoting and paraphrasing scripture, what I believe is "rightly dividing the word" .. which is given for (among others) instruction in righteousness.

I'm not holier than thou, but I've never seen any of these pageants as anything other than a floor show.

I appreciate you saying this, real christian, followers of Christ do not run around half naked, that would be inappropriate and not honoring our bodies as temples of the Holy God.

Yeah, I imagine you'd rebuke Paul for his opinion on eating meat offered to idols.

I mean, REAL Christians would never do that either.

Just as REAL Christians don't dance.

Just as REAL Christians don't drink alcohol AT ALL.

Just as REAL Christians don't smoke.

Just as REAL Christians don't play cards.

Just as REAL Christians don't play any sports on Sundays.

Just as REAL Christians don't shop on Sundays.

Just as REAL Christians don't cook on Sundays.

Just as REAL Christians don't drive cars on Sundays.

Just as REAL Christians don't associate with drunkards.

Just as REAL Christians ____________ (Fill in the blank as to what YOU feel makes a REAL Chritian)

Its quite obvious that anbody who does ANY of these things IS NOT a REAL Christian.

I caught a few of the episodes last year and I DID get caught up in this years AI.

I forget last year, but there was a Christian that got in the etop three or so and was voted out.

This year Joshua had a lot more goin' on than Philip, but he was voted out.

Jessica was too young (IMO), so Philip Philips won.

Maybe my reasoning doesn't match yours, but then, we all have different elements forming our flow chart of thought pattern.

Judgment on the Daughters of Zion

16 ¶ Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:
17 therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.

(go 'head n' tell me you ain't lookin')

18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,
19 the chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,
20 the bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings,
21 the rings, and nose jewels,
22 the changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins,
23 the glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the veils.
24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.
25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.
26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.

It's a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God

Ahh yes...Lets just look at this discussion.

Knarf:
If recent "Amerrican Idol" shows are any indication ... God ain't allowin' ANY o' His people win these glamor/fame shows.
Devote Christianity includes separation from the world.

MM:
Seperation from the world huh? Last time I checked MY Bible, it said to be IN the world, not seperated from it.
Maybe yours says something else.

Knarf:
Come ye out from among them and be the therefore separated.(Corinthians 6:17)

MM:
XXX-Wrong answer.
Try reading the verse in context.

14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? 16 Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said,

The passage is clearly talking about PARTNERING with unbelievers.

I find it interesting you mention this verse, written by Paul, who referred himself as the Apostle to the Gentiles. Can't be an Apostle to unbelievers if one seperates themselves from them. One must go out amongst them.

Jesus' own words in John 17
13 But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.

Your whole stated premis was seperation, and you used a bible verse to support that.

I pointed out the CONTEXT of the verse with other verses around it.

That is trying to "rightly divide the word (of truth)"...not trying to make the Word say what we want it to say, or think it says.

I then pointed out that Paul called himself the Apostle to the Gentiles, and to be that he had to go to them, NOT seperate himself from them.

Next I used Jesus' own words which stated that he was SENT in to the world and that he SENT his followers in to the world.

He was also PRAYING that God wouldn't take them out of the world, BUT to keep them from the evil one.

Lastly

Knarf:
Well, I must be mistaken to think a girl half naked before the world was not to be considered unChristian.
I guess those girls don't eat and drink winning and glamor and physical beauty from wake-up to lights out.
I'm surely misled to think that I might look upon that woman and not commit adultery WITH her.
I'm SO blind.

Not one counter to my post. Nothing about "seperation".

Just a rant about a girl being half naked, and eating and drinking winning and glamour and physical beauty from wake up to lights out.

And a continued rant about committing or not committing adultery with her.

Yes...that is what I'd call spin.

You avoided the subect at hand, "seperation", and began ranting about something else.

..........................................

Now on the other hand, there might be some basis to your other views that I WOULD agree with. (But those we weren't discussing).

But it is also important to note WHAT the article is about.

The article is about a beautiful woman in a beauty pageant, Who is openly a self proclaimed Christian, and unapologetic about it, in a venue that can be openly hostile and ruthless to ANY Christians, unknown or up front.

You say you're not holier than thou, and yet you're attacking a beautiful woman, who admits to her own beauty AND YET, who proclaims Christ and her following of him, OVER her beauty, in a venue that WORSHIPS beauty and denigrates Christians, or anybody who tries to uphold morals.

I could have "understood" the attack if this was a piece on a beauty queen who was espousing Christian platitudes just to garner her favorability or fame. Instead, I see this as an article trying to boost and encourage a woman of beauty and substance, and you looking for a way, ANY WAY, to assasinate her, because she doesn't fit YOUR ideal.

So you are saying that women who wear jewelry; the chains and the mufflers (?), headbands, earrings, nose jewels (OK they are kinda gross), changeable suits of apparel (?), the glasses (?) are going to Hell and aren’t true Christians? Are you really that literal?

And it shall come to pass, [that] instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; [and] burning instead of beauty.

And that:

Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.

I’m a gal (and so no, I’m not into looking at Camel Toe) and so can’t really speak for the guys here but I’m sorta thinking that most American guys, rather than to come home to a wife who never changes clothes, never does her hair, never uses deodorant live alone perfume, dresses and smells like one of Osama Bin Laden’s wives or camels, would probably prefer die in battle. YMMV.

OTHO, guys like my dad and a lot of other American GI’s thought this was well worth fighting for.

Wasn’t the Miss USA/Miss Universe pageant established as sluttier version of the Miss America pageant?

Ever read Song Of Solomon (Song of Songs)?

I'd say the author would agree with you wholeheartedly.

And those who'd be offended at an event like this, better not read SoS either. It would more than make them blush.

In all you say, you accuse me of relating MY thoughts when all I did was refer to the scriptures and let them stand as they are.

I see however, that your position is what dictates your comments and (what you accuse me of being MY position) is not my position because I think so, but because I allow scripture to formulate my thought process.

It's called brain washing.

The use of the word sluttier implies that you view ALL beauty pageant contestants as sluts, and that Miss USA/Universe's are just more so.

The very fact that you're on a thread about someone vieing for Miss USA, means you were interested in knowing something about someone who you view as more slutty than those you already view as sluts.

The Scripture advises that we should not quarrel over disputable matters - like whether or not a Christian woman should compete in a beauty pageant.

I think it is grossly unfair to place young Brittany in the company of pornographic film stars or centerfolds.

I am chuckling for there have been many Catholic girls vie for the Miss USA title, in fact, one from our local area.
Never was there such a big spread about the Catholic girl as far as I can remember.

Funny!
