I’m Roman Catholic. Could there be anything more false than religions by their very name “protesting” against the one true apostolic Church of God? Was Martin Luther a delusional fanatic, as well as a virulent anti-semite? I don’t feel “impelled” to defend Mormonism or any other religion, except from the standpoint that we have religious freedom in America.

IOW I don’t give a rat’s rear about Mormonism. Some people see speaking in tongues, exorcisms, belief in demons, virgin births, etc., as lunacy. Are these not tenets of our traditional Christianities?

Is Mormonism bunk? Being that it’s not my religion, of course. Is what Obama believes bunk? Absolutely. Bill and Hilary Clinton?? Puleeze.

Thanks for the info. Mormons are decent well behaved God fearing people.

The issue at hand is not about the people but rather the ISM which is founded in heresies and blasphemies.

I’ve noticed over the past few months, that there is a lot of Mormon bashing on FR. I’m curious as to the motive.

Behaving well ???

Yes it can be an aquired practiced trait...

Decent ??? polygamy ???

“God fearing people ...”

Hardly..

They honor, sustain” and belie in Joey Smith as their “prophet”..l the one who will let them into their Mormon after life..

the same Joey Smith who spat in the face of God of the Bible and mocked Him by starting his own anti-Judeo-Christian religion and including the breaking of each of the Ten Commandments as tenets and doctrines and necessary for “atonement...”

Especially adultery in the form of polygamy as required in Mormonism in order to not be damned and required for godship as their “heavenly father” and his literally begat son the mormon jesus did to go from mankind in which they started and to evolve and progress to gods...

What was that you said about fear of God ???

You’re welcome to believe however you like. If voting for a so-called “protestant” would violate your conscience, would you do it anyway to get a desired political outcome? If so, wouldn’t that be like telling God you don’t really trust him? That’s what it would be to me, and that’s why Mitt won’t get my vote. The ends do not justify the means.

BTW, “protest-ant” was not a term those Christians took on of their own accord. It was a term of derision applied to them by their opponents in the Catholic church to discredit them through ridicule. Alinsky-before-Alinsky. Kill the messenger. Pay no attention to the message. Luther never wanted to leave the RC Church. He just wanted it to get back to its Augustinian roots. I have a lot of respect for the contributions of RC thinkers and believers. I’m a natural law guy to the core. I’d be RC today if it weren’t for a host of post-patristic doctrinal accretions that have no basis in Scripture.

But at least we both see the same God. Mormonism isn’t even referenced to the God of Abraham. More kinship to the Babylonian pantheon (multiplicity of gods).

See, as people always say here at FR, words have meaning. There is a very respectable argument that you and I are both Christians. Mormonism cannot make a rational argument to that effect. And that’s fine. The Constitution allows them to run for office, as much as any Christian or Buddhist or Pagan.

That does not mean I have to ignore the fact that they have no proper doctrinal or historical claim to the term “Christian.” Nor must I shut off the “faith” part of my brain when I enter the voting booth. I am a free American and I am empowered by both natural law and the First Amendment to use whatever criteria I see fit in choosing who to vote or not vote for. So are you.

Gee, that's too bad. No 'faith contending' for you; a Catholic; eh?

"Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the 'whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent"

IOW I don’t give a rat’s rear about Mormonism.

Can I then assume you do not care if false things are said about your chosen religion?

I am not a Mormon, have never been tempted by Mormonism and view Mormonism as a cult, a lot like Scientology in many regards. I am not a Scientologist and have never been tempted by Scientology.

I did grow up in Las Vegas and worked there for many years as a result, over the years, I knew a lot of Mormons. I never saw any evidence they were much different, as a group, than non-Mormons and what differences I did perceive tended to be on the plus-side in terms of work ethic, personal responsibility, and general politeness and ease-of-getting-along with.

Bottom line: despite the doctrine of Mormonism being whacko and non-Christian, the fruits of Mormonism seem to be a higher level of social worth than the average population. From what I’ve seen. In my experience.
