Nwrep,

I think you are correct in the main. Being a Mormon, I know we have some unique doctrines, but in my experience the religious principles that are seen as most important on a day-to-day basis are ones that are shared by many other Christians, such as prayer, faith, charity, neighborliness, chastity, work, etc.

I hear many comments on this site and in other places where people say that Mormons are good, decent people who you would like to work alongside and have as neighbors, and I think the reason is we are taught to take our religion seriously and put the teachings of Christ into action.

Best,

Normandy

Oh, are YOU Roman Catholic??? You really miss the point, friend. Don’t lecture me about some other religion when I could just as easily lecture you about yours.

So you want to lecture me that Roman Catholics have been “lured into the maw of Mormonism”?

In 6 decades, I never knew a single RC to convert to Mormonism. I do know many that attend the flavor of the week new evangelical churches.

So by your logic I should be very troubled by protestant presidential candidates.

Guess what, in America you can become a Catholic, Mormon or Protestant as you choose.

I am not Roman Catholic but have much respect for the Faith and the many fellow Christians in it.

Because I very clearly got your point you make mine...

You don’t even know what faith I consider to be correct, I don’t know why you’d even say it. I made no reference to it. I was pointing out that the flawed logic of someone saying because many religions are wrong, that all of them are. The guy who says something like that is saying there is no truth, because everything is the same. However there are right answers and there is truth, and it exists despite infinite numbers of wrong answers and lies.

Maybe you should actually read what people post instead of seeing what you want to see them say, and then responding to THAT. That’s called a straw man argument. Nobody buys it.

You Will are free to post to anyone you like and say whatever you want (some limitations in the Religion Forum).
I was pointing out this thread is a discussion of mormonISM not mormons and if you are distressed about that you might not want to be on the thread.
I am intrigued by your apparent animosity towards Christians and non Roman Catholics.
My Catholic family (both Roman Catholic and Catholic) have zero problem with the members of my family who are not, that includes the Nun and Priest, they do however have great problems with mormonISM.

If you want to tell me there is one true answer and that’s why I should be worried about Mormons, I suggest you start by identifying the one true answer.

Until you do I must expect you believe the same about Mormonism and my religion. Namely, that both are wrong.

Otherwise there would be more than one answer.

Will we Jews and Israelis that don’t believe Jesus is God, be in the same boat as the Mormons?

Will we Jews and Israelis that don’t believe Jesus is God, be in the same boat as the Mormons?

Since Jews and Israelis do not claim the title of "Christian", they would likely have no problem with being seen as nonChristian.

Mormonism is in an especially leaky boat in that for 150 years leaders and members alike denigrated Christianity until in the 90's someone made the decision that co-opting the name "Christian" would be somehow beneficial.

They demand that Christians not only recognize them as equal, but are expected to grant them equality while the non-Biblical doctrines and practices and denial of Christian beliefs are to be NOW (under the Mormonism Affirmative Action rule), left intact even though they have been inimical to settled and accepted Christianity since the inception of mormonism by Joseph Smith.

Mormonism now not only demands a "seat at the Christian banquet table", it demands to set the menu, control the guest list, collect the funds from the ticket sales, and choose its own non-Biblical unedited and false message from its chosen speaker, all the while whining about being persecuted.

Do you Jews and Israelies enjoy being labeled as "gentiles" by the mormons?

To be clear, I am not boarding your boat. And to answer the other’s question, trust me the people all wound up about Mormons are not luvin Jews.

So let me get this correct. Are you saying that people who are exposing mormonISM are anti-Semitic?

According to Mormonism and their own words, all ten of these are true and this why Mormonism is a cult!

I’ve noticed over the past few months, that there is a lot of Mormon bashing on FR. I’m curious as to the motive.

My theory is that some people here see Mormonism as demonic, and see Romney's nomination as a literal pact with Satan by the GOP. Their belief is that a Romney Presidency would advance Mormonism and thus advance the hold that Satan has over mankind. Opposing this is their highest priority.

My theory is speculative and I can't demonstrate that it is true in any particular case, but I do believe it is so.

Did I miss something? Those are direct Mormon quotes and you claim that's "Mormon bashing"! They said it and you want to deny what their leaders have said!

As a black man I will throw in their racist history, you need to read JOD, the horses mouth!

Jews get upset when they find out that Mormons such as Romney are converting them into baptized Mormons after they die.

I don’t think they are very happy that Romney used to teach that Jews came to America and became Indians, either.

I am not catholic and I get pretty irritated when I hear catholics deciding for everyone what is christianity and what is not.

Yeah... it does kinda gall a person...

Questions put to Joseph Smith: "'Do you believe the Bible?' [Smith:]'If we do, we are the only people under heaven that does, for there are none of the religious sects of the day that do'. When asked 'Will everybody be damned, but Mormons'? [Smith replied] 'Yes, and a great portion of them, unless they repent, and work righteousness." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 119).
Joseph Smith: "for the teachers of religion of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible" (from Pearl of Great Price 1:12). "What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.270).

Brigham Young stated this repeatedly: "When the light came to me I saw that all the so-called Christian world was grovelling in darkness" (Journal of Discourses 5:73); "The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God" (Journal of Discourses 8:171); "With a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world" (Journal of Discourses 8:199); "And who is there that acknowledges [God's] hand? ...You may wander east, west, north, and south, and you cannot find it in any church or government on the earth, except the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" (Journal of Discourses , vol. 6, p.24); "Should you ask why we differ from other Christians, as they are called, it is simply because they are not Christians as the New Testament defines Christianity" (Journal of Discourses 10:230).

Orson Pratt proclaimed: "Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the 'whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent" (The Seer, p. 255).

Orson Pratt also said: "This great apostasy commenced about the close of the first century of the Christian era, and it has been waxing worse and worse from then until now" (Journal of Discourses
, vol.18, p.44) and: "But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be ...But there has been a long apostasy, during which the nations have been cursed with apostate churches in great abundance" (Journal of Discourses , 18:172).

President John Taylor stated: "Christianity...is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century." (Journal of Discourses , vol. 6, p.167); "Where shall we look for the true order or authority of God? It cannot be found in any nation of Christendom." (Journal of Discourses , 10:127).

James Talmage said: "A self-suggesting interpretation of history indicates that there has been a great departure from the way of salvation as laid down by the Savior, a universal apostasy from the Church of Christ". (A Study of the Articles of Faith, p.182).

President Joseph Fielding Smith said: "Doctrines were corrupted, authority lost, and a false order of religion took the place of the gospel of Jesus Christ, just as it had been the case in former dispensations, and the people were left in spiritual darkness." (Doctrines of Salvation, p.266). "For hundreds of years the world was wrapped in a veil of spiritual darkness, until there was not one fundamental truth belonging to the place of salvation ...Joseph Smith declared that in the year 1820 the Lord revealed to him that all the 'Christian' churches were in error, teaching for commandments the doctrines of men" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, p.282).

More recent statements by apostle Bruce McConkie are also very clear: "Apostasy was universal...And this darkness still prevails except among those who have come to a knowledge of the restored gospel" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol 3, p.265); "Thus the signs of the times include the prevailing apostate darkness in the sects of Christendom and in the religious world in general" (The Millennial Messiah, p.403); "a perverted Christianity holds sway among the so-called Christians of apostate Christendom" (Mormon Doctrine, p.132); "virtually all the millions of apostate Christendom have abased themselves before the mythical throne of a mythical Christ whom they vainly suppose to be a spirit essence who is incorporeal uncreated, immaterial and three-in-one with the Father and Holy Spirit" (Mormon Doctrine, p.269); "Gnosticism is one of the great pagan philosophies which antedated Christ and the Christian Era and which was later commingled with pure Christianity to form the apostate religion that has prevailed in the world since the early days of that era." (Mormon Doctrine, p.316).

President George Q. Cannon said: "After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christendom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They all belong to Babylon" (Gospel Truth, p.324).

President Wilford Woodruff stated: "the Gospel of modern Christendom shuts up the Lord, and stops all communication with Him. I want nothing to do with such a Gospel, I would rather prefer the Gospel of the dark ages, so called" (Journal of Discourses , vol. 2, p.196).
