Non-mormon FReepers feel impelled to defend mormonism based on their "feelings" or friendship with mormons.

In posting this article, I'm providing the service of a brief outline of mormon beliefs so that these defenders of mormonism may see just what they are defending.

This is a bare bones summary with much left out of mormon practices such as baptism for the dead.

Great information, however grey there will still be people who claim to be Christians that will defend mormonism as ok.

Many LDS teachings from The Journal of Discourses reveal the chasm between MormonISM and Christianity, and one of the most astonishing is listed below:

"We may talk of men being redeemed by the efficacy of his [Christ's] blood; but the truth is that that blood has no efficacy to wash away our sins. That must depend upon our own action." [ LDS Apostle Amasa M. Lyman, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, p. 299, 1859]

And following are a few of the Bible reasons why this is blasphemous teaching from MormonISM:

Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

1 Peter 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

I’m Roman Catholic. Could there be anything more false than religions by their very name “protesting” against the one true apostolic Church of God? Was Martin Luther a delusional fanatic, as well as a virulent anti-semite? I don’t feel “impelled” to defend Mormonism or any other religion, except from the standpoint that we have religious freedom in America.

IOW I don’t give a rat’s rear about Mormonism. Some people see speaking in tongues, exorcisms, belief in demons, virgin births, etc., as lunacy. Are these not tenets of our traditional Christianities?

Is Mormonism bunk? Being that it’s not my religion, of course. Is what Obama believes bunk? Absolutely. Bill and Hilary Clinton?? Puleeze.

Thanks for the info. Mormons are decent well behaved God fearing people.

The issue at hand is not about the people but rather the ISM which is founded in heresies and blasphemies.

And every religion but mine is false. That should be obvious. Why should I worry about fights between heretical cats and dogs?

Apparently, you can’t grasp what is so simple: this is about the ISM, not about cats and dogs.

I would suggest that given that comment, you refrain from clicking on threads that have "mormon" or "mormonism" in the title.

I guess this means we are morally obliged to vote for the Muslim.

And every religion but mine is false.

I take it a step farther: Even people in my religion are heretics.

To be a true blessed believer, you must be ME.

Do these teachings and beliefs make any practical difference in how ordinary Mormons live their lives? Aren't they all busy with day to day tasks of raising large families and work, Church activities, etc? I doubt the average Mormon housewife is going to even know these doctrines, let alone act on them. My guess (not having close contacts with any practicing Mormons) is that they will acknowledge general high-level precepts about Christ being their savior, but will not know the significance of the theological points of their doctrine in practical terms. In other words, from an outwardly standpoint, they will seem to adhere to the general Christian lifestyle principles of holiness and sanctification as preached by, for example, Paul in his epistles.

Correct? Just wondering...

I’ve noticed over the past few months, that there is a lot of Mormon bashing on FR. I’m curious as to the motive.

This is the Religion Forum and a discussion about mormonISM not mormons.
If you do not wish to participate in a discussion of mormonISM maybe you should get on the thread.
Again the discussion is not about mormons it is about mormonISM.

I guess this means we are morally obliged to vote for the Muslim.

Vote for whomever you wish. I won't criticize you for your vote, and I refuse to accept criticism of MY vote, which will be for conservative Virgil Goode.

There are FReepers who feel compelled to defend mormonism...which is something that Romney refuses to do. He would prefer to avoid the subject entirely.

It appears that some of these defenders of mormonism like to avoid the doctrine and belief and then accuse those who refuse to vote for Romney of supporting Obama. That's a straw man argument, as the comment "I guess this means we are morally obliged to vote for the Muslim." seems to be.

Are there issues in the thread article that you wish to discuss?

The problem comes in them placing faith in a false Jesus. Christ is a member of a one and three entity. Essentially, the Mormon faith will not save the Mormon. If we care for them we will be ready to share the true gospel with them. To be prepared, we must know the differences ourselves.
