Celestial Sales For Boy’s Tale Of Heaven [Bestseller “Heaven Is for Real”]
The New York Times ^ | March 11, 2011 | Julie Bosman

Posted on 03/12/2011 1:35:42 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Just two months shy of his fourth birthday, Colton Burpo, the son of an evangelical pastor in Imperial, Neb., was rushed into emergency surgery with a burst appendix.

He woke up with an astonishing story: He had died and gone to heaven, where he met his great-grandfather; the biblical figure Samson; John the Baptist; and Jesus, who had eyes that “were just sort of a sea-blue and they seemed to sparkle,” Colton, now 11 years old, recalled.

Colton’s father, Todd, has turned the boy’s experience into a 163-page book, “Heaven Is for Real,” which has become a sleeper paperback hit of the winter, dominating best-seller lists and selling hundreds of thousands of copies.

Thomas Nelson, the book’s publisher, said it had broken company sales records. The publisher, based in Nashville, began with an initial print run of 40,000 copies. Since the book came out in November, it has gone back to press 22 times, with more than 1.5 million copies in print....

I share such not to be stern with you or anyone but to warn folks of what's ahead. A casual, resistive, dismissive attitude toward WHATEVER GOD IS AUTHENTICALLY DOING is never a good idea. It will become less and less so dramatically in our era.

We are not going to blame God for this get rich quick opportunity, are we?

Absolutely. I hate to think of the damage that the brick suffered when hitting a certain cranium...

A certain somebody we all know was probably taking refuge beneath the mothership.

His body left behind in the hospital? That's a different story. HINT--COLTON WASN'T HOME!

That would be a perceived as commonly called an "out of the body experience". Again, this ties in with many cults and movements now, which not only claim these types of experiences, but they 'practice' doing so after such an expereince....and believe they are meeting and talking to heavenly beings of one nature or another. 'New Agers' are especially involved with these....many after a so called "encounter" thru death or trauma or some such.

I purposely left out 'away from' what Colton's parents were doing. I know exactly what you wrote. But you missed the point which I thought you'd grasp quickly concerning your background. Which is why I numbered these as did. But it did pass you by Quix..... Amazing me that would be so.

IMO you are putting a huge amount of trust in a little boys words.....and as said...more that he supposedly had expereinces, or knew, or stated such and such. Quix, he's a child........a very misguided child...and his parents have yielded to that which they should have stood strong against. Can't believe you don't see this Quix.

You stated....Jesus said SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN TO COME TO HIM. That is true...along with the rest...AND FORBIDE THEM NOT. In context they were attempting to keep the children from Christ....thus his response was to intervene and He did just that......but these were children on the ground, walking as children do....not off in some twilight zone as Colton was when this first began...brought on by drugs from being sedated. You continue to not want to look at the root here Quix....your background should tell you that is significant. He was 3 yr's. old. when this began...three!

Quix, I am finding from your posts you want to believe this story and all which surrounds it. Your defense of evidences you are sold on it....and as much believe that out of the body expereinces can be from God....and that spiritual experiences in the unseen world should be sought or at least accepted...... That does fly in the face of Gods word...but until you want to see it as God sees it there is nothing more I can say.....anymore than attempting to speak with Scientologists, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, New Agers and the hoards of cult religions and false religions who claim the same as Colton does......

.....and so I am closing this communication Quix. We see these spiritual encounters in a very different light....and I do not see your opinion will change...you are sold on these, at least those you determine are valid. ...and I am not going to give further room for these falshoods nor be a part of. I didn't realize you were in that place Quix. But it is a place I will not go, as I see the Lord speaks against us doing so..and for obvious reasons.

Scripture is quite clear. There are two forces in Creation. God and satan. Satan is not even a gnat's burp's worth of force compared to God but satan is on one side and God on the other.

Scripture is clear about TESTING THE SPIRITS.

CHRIST MADE CLEAR THAT THE CRITICAL ISSUE FOR ANY SOURCE OF INFORMATION

IS

WHETHER THE SOURCE ACKNOWLEDGES THAT CHRIST CAME IN THE FLESH, IS THEIR LORD, BELIEVES THE BASIC DOCTRINES OF THE FAITH ETC.

BY THE BIBLE'S OWN CRITERIA, COLTON BURPO PASSES THE AUTHENTIC BIBLICAL, GODLY SOURCED CRITERIA. You can CAN IGNORE and disbelieve THE BIBLICAL CRITERIA IF YOU WISH. I DON'T RECOMMEND IT.

Certainly there are COUNTERFEIT spiritual experiences and the New Agers are wallowing in them. That has nothing whatsoever remotely to do with Colton's type of experiences. They are as different as night and day; as light and dark; as Godly and evil.

It shocks me that you seem to not know that. Scripture gives such criteria for testing the spirits for A REASON. Ignoring the BIBLICAL CRITERIA and basing your responses TO WHAT GOD IS DOING on your own UNBIBLICAL ASSUMPTIONS AND BIASES is NOT a BIBLICAL policy.

I purposely left out 'away from' what Colton's parents were doing. I know exactly what you wrote. But you missed the point which I thought you'd grasp quickly concerning your background. Which is why I numbered these as did. But it did pass you by Quix..... Amazing me that would be so.

I don't think I missed anything. Seems like you have missed 95% of what I've written on the topic.

Welllllllllll for more than 30 years, my PROFESSIONAL LIFE has included a LOT of being able, by God's Grace, training and giftings to assess whether 3 year olds were telling the truth--whether it was about abuse or what daddy said vs what mother said or whatever came up in the family dynamics under discussion. By God's Grace, I don't recall a single such case where I missed it. You can think whatever you will about that.

Certainly children can be gifted with fantasy. And some children who are mangled early in their lives may have a hard time distinguishing between fantasy vs reality.

HOWEVER, OVERWHELMINGLY FOR THE VAST MAJORITY OF YOUNG CHILDREN--THEY DO NOT HAVE A HARD TIME TELLING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FANTASY VS REALITY.

AND, MOST OF THE TIME, Such young children can BE VERY RELIABLY COUNTED ON to be the most bluntly candid, honest members in the family. I'd have though you'd have known that.

Regardless, in Colton Burpo's case, His word choices, sentence structure, . . . his candor rings greatly true to my professional sense as well as Holy Spirit's communications within me.

My spiritual, non-professional assessment criteria on such scores are not greatly different from Alamo-Girl's--including an inner witness of God's Spirit. Also included is an assessment of what the fruit is. The fruit of Colton Burpo's narrative is virtually totally positive--I would be hard pressed to think of any example of it not being positive in behalf of the Kingdom of God.

Denial of such incredibly powerful benefits for folks being introduced to a Saving relationship with Christ as well as other spiritual benefits to individuals and thereby God's Kingdom . . . denial of such is absolutely mind boggling to me. I'm shocked that so many Christians make such shockingly UNBIBLICAL assertions against something so OBVIOUSLY OF GOD AND SO OBVIOUSLY BIBLICAL.

Colton Was NOT in some twilight zone. Evidently you have not studied such experiences much at all.

Certainly not every NDE is Christian, kosher, Biblical. Those that are not are certainly to be trashed, ignored, stood against just as a $3.00 bill is to be rejected immediately.

However, satan COUNTERFEITS THE REAL. He doesn't go around counterfeiting $3.00 bills!!!! He counterfeits that which IS REAL AND IS OF GOD, is Biblical.

Quix, I am finding from your posts you want to believe this story and all which surrounds it.

Actually, you're even WRONG about that. I take each such narrative on it's own face value. I WANT TO BELIEVE ONLY those which are Biblical and OBVIOUSLY OF GOD.

I have read some which were not and I do not even mention them. Some give me the willies in my spirit immediately and I read no further.

I find those assertions extremely UNBIBLICAL AND GROSSLY INSULTING.

1. Scripture is clear that there ARE KOSHER, BIBLICAL, GODLY OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES AS ST PAUL MAKES ABUNDANTLY CLEAR. Have you not read the whole NEW TESTAMENT? How did you miss those verses? Or have you torn them out of your Bible?

2. Your perspective on these issues is the UNBIBLICAL one.

GOD IS NOT ABOUT TO ALLOW satan to have all the miraculous, dramatic events and experiences for people in the END TIMES.

God will put satan's works to shame in every way on every front in His ways, in His time. God will tend to be more dramatic, MORE MIRACULOUS, MORE PURE TRUE LIGHT in a long list of ways. Of course satan can't offer ANY pure true light.

In any case, thank you for hanging in there on some semblance of a dialogue as long as you did. May God lead you into HIS TRUTH in these matters.

"Boy's Tale of Heaven - part 4"

This is the magnum opus when Jesse Duplantis or Benny Hinn come to visit the family and listen to the dog speak and then they get a whole new revelation by reading between the Woof-Woofs.

Jesse reads this as a sign that God want to add another wing to Jesse's 24-bedroom mansion and talks about how sad dogs will be in heaven as all the cats are in hell

Once they publish part 4, they can re-release the first 3 with additional excerpts of the little kid playing ball with the cherubs and the dog learning that in heaven he's not allowed to scent-mark the trees.

It ought to make skeptics, nonbelievers, and atheists stop and think.

This is impossible as this thread proves:

1 Corinthians 2:14 New International Version (NIV)

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
