Few people might be aware of this: There are passages in the Bible that coincide with scientific principles that weren't discovered by scientists until hundreds of years after the Bible had been written. Here are some examples:

Well, the Biblical view of life is that mankind is made up of three great families, all related through Noah and eventually back to Adam.

Interesting that mankind is made up of three racial groups as well.

I wonder how they'd know that..../s

Are you willing to admit that creationists do the same thing?

and evolution starts with no premise except that there is no premise and builds a theory based on the evidence.

You didn't really say that, did you?

I understand having differing opinions, but how does someone ignore mountains of scientific evidence?

Apparently, you don't understand it at all. Nobody is ignoring mountains of scientific evidence. It's the interpretation of that evidence that creationists take exception to.

I guess I should be grateful when today’s social scientists,
psychologists and shrink confirm theological concepts.
That were understood thousands of years ago.

E.g., finding out that the concept of “original sin” doesn’t sound
crazy when considering the study cited in the thread linked below:

If you were much of a Bible reader, you would know that the first copy was written on stone by the finger of God.

Really? Where does it say that?

*bangs head on desk....*

A five year old ought to be able to figure that one out.

Even when he's caught posting false things regarding the Bible, he proclaims himself to be the superior source.

Considering that humans are supposed to be the only creatures who have evolved to believe in God, I can't imagine that anyone who doesn't believe in God could legitimately consider themselves superior since they wouldn't be as high on the evolutionary scale.

Don’t read more into Scripture than what is presented, but likewise don’t make so many unfounded assumptions and assert them to be truthful, when at best they merely represent a static meaning from science at one point in time.
For example, dating the earth and cosmos. There is nothing wrong in establishing a dating system based relative to a certain method, such as Carbon 14 radioactive decay. There is something incongruous with extrapolating that meaning to an absolute timeline, ignoring the assumptions, then basing future arguments upon the altered meaning of the dating system.

Maybe you are placing your faith more in physical images of your liking, than receiving what He is providing for you through faith in Him, ergo, you might be asking the wrong question in order to understand His meaning which He is providing for you.

I'll bite. What is the right question?

I also have a question for you. Do you know of a single, clear, unambiguous prophecy that has come true?

With most religious people I know, there is a vast gulf between what they believe and what the scriptures actually say. Their beliefs are actually a lot more coherent and rational and they generally impose their beliefs on what they read.

Prophecy:

Daniel gives the time to the exact date the Messiah should come several hundred years before the event. It may not be clear to you but it was crystal to faithful Jews at the time.

The Bible prophesied that the city of Tyre would be utterly destroyed and describes how it would be done.

The Bible foretold the destruction of Babylon and furthermore that it would never be rebuilt.

Then there’s Samaria, Gaza-Ashkelon, Petra and Edom, Thebes and Mamphis, Nineveh

Details are available in Josh McDowell’s book: Evidence That Demands a Verdict.

Einstein was of the zeitgeist in which the universe is eternal and infinite. This still hangs around in man’s psyche. We now now it has a beginning and an end and it is not infinite. This should greatly trouble the non-believer.

Could you please explain to the assembled what just ARE the advantages of being a heathen? I mean BESIDES the self-gratification of being the ‘smartest guy in the class’.

Will you feel as superior when you die and find out you ARE in fact an eternal spiritual being?

I will be free to travel the universe and perhaps even beyond into other dimensions at the speed of thought. Where will you be?

I'll bite. What is the right question? I've found it best to first humble ourselves before Him, placing just a smidgeon more faith than absolutely no faith whatsoever, and asking perhaps, 'What have you God, provided for us?'

In this particular context, of seeking to understand the description of the earth, instead of asking 'Is that describing a globe hanging in space?'from the context of a predetermined scientific answer already in hand, one might ask, 'Exactly what is being descibed by the Scripture?'

The next process might be to read and hear what is being provided in Scripture as something God is revealing to us about Him and what He has provided.

Instead of basing our thinking first upon the creation, those created things we observe as being primal to God, we instead are accepting Him as being primal, and then inquire as to what He is revealing to us about creation.

This doens't negate science, the scientific method, experimental design, nor any number of rationalistic inquiries, inductions or deduction, but it is a discernibly different method than placing the creation before the Creator.

It might be the case that He is revealing something far more profound to us than we had set our minds upon investigating independent of Him.

Do you know of a single, clear, unambiguous prophecy that has come true?

Sure, lots of them. Take for example our Lord Christ Jesus riding into Jerusalem on the foal of a donkey, prophecied in Zechariah 9:9, some 542 years before the event.

We also have our Lord Christ Jesus prophecying to the builders that the Temple would not have one stone left upon another, but His temple would be raised again in three days after His death. The Temple was torn down circa 70 AD, and not one stone left upon another when those tearing it down became aware of the many golden fixtures in the Temple, and when it was burned, believed the gold had melted and drained between the cracks and joints between the building's stonework. They then proceded to tear down the Temple in search for their treasure.

I don't know. Knowing the truth? Not being deluded? Not being a sheep? I suppose there are lots of reasons to not want to be ignorant.

Will you feel as superior when you die and find out you ARE in fact an eternal spiritual being?

That would be great :)

I will be free to travel the universe and perhaps even beyond into other dimensions at the speed of thought. Where will you be?

I will be squirming in Hell, suffering for eternity : )

I hope for your sake that is true :) And I do applaud religion if that is its purpose, to inspire us.
