A soldier is in hospital with serious injuries after a horrific knife attack near an Army Barracks in Kent. Police said they were called around 5.55pm on Tuesday to a report of a serious assault in Sally Port Gardens, Gillingham. The victim, in his 40s, suffered injuries consistent with stab wounds and was airlifted to hospital for treatment. A World War Two veteran has finally received his medals, nearly 80 years late. Now 98 and living in Watchet, Somerset, George Lewis served with the Royal Tank Regiment from 1944 to 1947. But he never received his medals, with Mr Lewis suggesting they may have been lost in the post. The two men whose remains were found in Bristol and London last week belong to a French national and his British ex-partner, police have revealed - as a 34-year-old man who had been staying with them is charged with murder.
