Now and Then: Susan Sarandon on Boycotts and Free Speech
USA Today / StopDrLaura.com ^ | 4/14/2003 / April 2000 | various

NOW: (from USA Today): Says Sarandon, "It's so ironic that we should be quote unquote liberating another country and giving them a democracy when we're telling people here if they open their mouths, they're not allowed to participate."

THEN (from StopDrLaura.com): Academy-Award-winning-actress Susan Sarandon offered her comments and a photo for the StopDrLaura.com web site. "Dr. Laura has a right to her opinion, but I think it's irresponsible of Paramount to not give equal time, at the very least, to a person with a more enlightened and contemporary perspective," Sarandon's statement said. "I'm totally against wasting the airwaves giving visibility to a person who is clearly in dire need of compassion, education, and a good shrink herself."

Thus quoth Sarandon: "Freedom of speech for me, but not for thee."

"I can boycott but YOU cannot."

Liberals are for free speech only when they agree with what is said.

Sarandon is a typical liberal hypocrite....those who demand tolerance for themselves but display complete intolerance for those who don't share their views.
Good find!

Yeah, but just couldn't have left her as statuary, could they?

"Thelma and Louise" would have been a great film had they kept the happy ending without destroying the T-Bird.

Obviously, it all comes down to money, you can't stop me from making mine, but I can stop you from making yours.

Of course she and her butt boy, don't pay taxes, like the little people.

The happy ending being: they park the T-Bird, hand off the keys to the marshall, and then jump head-first into the Grand Canyon? Sounds good to me... Let's send that suggestion to Sarandon when they're approaching the 15th Anniversary celebration-showing of "T&L."

Gee Suzy. I hear you have a made-for-TV movie coming out. I can guarantee it won't be on my TV.

Why does she always play a washed up old whore?

Umm, because she doesn't have enough talent to play anything but herself?

How does someone so immature get quoted so often? Perhaps she has not heard... we have freedom of speech ...not freedom to be heard. Frankly, I think it is a waste of time anything about this woman.

Susan, baby, let me tell you something. When you broadcast your political statements, you ought to be prepared to defend them, knowing that somebody is going to try and verbally sucker punch ya. That is just the way the game is played. If you are going to get your feelings hurt, then maybe you ought to just keep it lipped and save it for the ballot box.

The right to free political speech doesn't come with an accompanying right to cram your opinion down other peoples throats without others also excersizing their right to free political speech.

not allowed to participate

Of course, of course: Susan probably bemoans that her cabbage-patch dolls & tickle-me Elmo toys "cannot participate" in the Christmas toy market. Something to do w/"market mentality" or something or other.

Could it be? You mean ideas, like products, either have a market or they don't have one? You don't say?
