There has been a fair amount of talk among people here on the desire to send packages to our troops. Here are some ideas. The military moms site has information of donation requests and will send items off for you. I asked all my friends and neighbors if they had a friend or relative stationed overseas and was swamped with people. I have "adopted" 3 enlisted men, but include extra gifts for them to hand out to friends who might be particulary down at any given moment.
Keep in mind it takes 2-3 weeks to actually make it to them. They especially want: lip balm, loition, sunscreen, wrap around sun glasses, hard candy (nothing that will melt like chocolate), gum, shaving cream, razors, BABY WIPES! because they are so grimy, magazines, paperback books (don't worry about the topics, they share amongst themselves) puzzle books, cards and small games, stationary and stamps, disposable cameras, and most of all, letters of love and support. Encourage the Boy or Girl Scout class you may be involved in, your Sunday school, your neighborhood children to come over for a day of card writing and include them in packages. Do not let this being another Vietnam on the homefront.

You can also visit the Freeper USO Canteen threads for more information and you can also post the APO addresses you have there.
The "Canteeners" have a big operation going in sending emails, letters, and packages to our troops and they welcome "new names" for their lists.

As a military guy myself, let me and some notes:
Magazines - Maxim, FHM, Stuff... these are lighthearted, hefty mags with lots of "guy" humor... and a few pictures that the men typically appreciate
Games - Yes! I recommend plain decks of *coated* (for durability) playing cards, Yahtzee, and Uno. These are popular and portable.
Candy - hard candy, yes... but get individually wrapped hard candy, like Jolly Ranchers (a favorite). Sunflower seeds are also a favorite although more of a luxury item in the desert.
Baby wipes - huge item, kudos for capitalizing it. May I also recommend Gold Bolds Medicated Powder. After using the baby wipe, a bit of this stuff down the trousers helps to keep "rot" at bay.
Tobacco products - I'm against these myself, but I wouldn't deny soldiers that are putting it on the line their fix. A lot of troops only dip when on duty... a bit of dip in the lip can help keep them awake (but, the again, so does hard candy). Again - I don't like it, but I know my troops can't get enough of this stuff... your choice...
Q-tips - They *must* be tearing through these. Dust gets in the ears and their WEAPONS. It's nigh impossible to get those M-16s 100% clean in the desert, but q-tips help.

Thanks, Johnny, for guiding these fine folks to the USO Canteen.
LOTS of information there to help out with Care Packages and letters. We always welcome more names and addresses to add to the list. Also sites where we can e-mail the men and women serving overseas can be found in the USO Canteen Post Office.
We love our service men and women, past and present.

A friend in Kuwait said beef jerky was a favorite.
I sent one package last month, another ready to go out tomorrow.

Today's thread in the Canteen has updated the list of addresses to send care packages to the Troops. The list is in the opening of the thread.

They had an interview on the radio with a Marine who said they also enjoy it when powdered Gatorade drink mix arrives.

instead of babywipes..new item found in the toilet paper section wipes for adults,(not everyone wants to wipe their face and end up smelling like a babies butt) Cottonelle makes them and someone else, they come in a nice little plastic case and they sell refills for them for about the same price.
