Seeing people on TV doning chemical protection.

I was just watching that, but understood the reporter to say that the video they were showing was a drill.

I'm glad you caught this. I posted the same thing to another thread, but since I caught just the end I wasn't too sure I had it correct.

Watching a stupid journalist now. She's got a mask on but she's holding the rest of the suit! She's wearing a T-shirt that should provide about a nanosecond's worth of protection against a chemical or biological attack. She can add "canary" to her resume, if she lives long enough.

My prayers are with you for the safety of your son. As another poster typed, try to get some sleep and stay in a pattern. Freepers will be here whenever you need to share your thoughts.

No troops have ever been trained and equipped so well against the mustard, sarin and VX gas that Saddam has. It's been well-tested. Our troops will follow their training and they will do well.

I am confident we will have few if any casualties to chemical attack.

A friend with whom I correspond in a chatroom online, he is a former elite squad (i dont remmber the name of it) in the canadian military, explained to me some interesting things about chemical weapons I didnt know about. Most of the time, their effectiveness at killing troops outright is very low due to high trainging. Instead, and invading army would launch a chemical attack ~2hrs or more before acual attack. This causes the opposing soldiers to wear protective suits and respirators. These respirators in particular make it much more difficult to breathe normally. After about 2 hours the soldiers would be exhausted and with the suits still on their sense of vision would be impared. With the troops worn down and impaired the "fresh" invading army comes in and attacks. Hince, most soldiers are killed by the invading army directly, but indirectly by the poison gas.

There are levels of moc up. The journalists on the front line have been trained by our troops, so if they are ill prepared it reflects badly upon us. It's easy to dislike lefty whacko reporters, but the ones on the front lines deserve our prayers as much as our troops. I would hope you would keep your mockery in check.

Sound tactics but the Iraqis can't make it work even if they're aware of the doctinre. This isn't that kind of war and they don't have the assault troops and air cover to make it work.

A non-starter in this war.
