Pro-America Rally Planned For Sunday UPDATED - Saturday March 01, 2003 4:21pm

Tulsa - There have been plenty of anti-war protests around the world and this weekend, a rally supporting America and its troops is being planned.

The "Pro-America Rally" starts at one o'clock on Sunday at the Memorial High School stadium.

Keynote speakers will include Mayor Bill LaFortune, Senator Jim Inhofe and Major General Lee Baxter.

KFAQ radio disc jockey Michael DelGiorno made the suggestion on air and says there was an immediate outpouring of support.

"The minute brave men and women go in harms way on our behalf, that demands our support," said DelGiorno. "And so, it's not a pro-war rally, it's a pro-America rally."

At one point, there were questions about the amount of security for the event. It was feared the rally would be canceled, but organizers tell NewsChannel 8 there will be plenty of security.

The Tulsa rally was GREAT! The "home" side at Memorial Stadium was packed, and the "visitor" side was half full. It was announced several times that there were three thousand folks there. People were streaming in way after it started. The organizers did a good job getting speakers and vocalists. The crowd was enthusiastic, loud, and full of pride.

The 12 or 13 anti-war protestors down at the corner must have given up and gone home before the rally was over because I never saw them as we were leaving.

Did you notice the big rig trucker driving up and down the road beside the stadium with his American flag flying?

All the nearby parking lots were filled so people were having to walk several blocks to get to the spot.

My two-year-old grandson was in awe of all the planes flying over.

Considering that KFAQ is a relatively new station in the Tulsa area, they did pretty good on short notice getting quite a crowd together.

Nice going Tulsa!

By the way, Cleveland had a rally of approx. 5,000 people, acc. to the reports on my Pittsburgh TV station WPXI. Congrats also to Cleveland.

Once again, NOTHING on any station we watch!!

Way to go Oklahoma!!!! Believe me, when these things don't make the news, and people start talking, the power of "word of mouth" will become known.
