Other sites have been EXTREMELY slow today, even low graphics/low traffic sites.
I thought it was just our work ISP until I got home.

The hamsters are dead.
I do believe the Axis of Gerbils™ has been contacted to see if they can spare any "new" stock.

**Other sites have been EXTREMELY slow today, even low graphics/low traffic sites.**

This makes me think it is terrorist hackers. My ISP at home is slow and where I worked (public school sytem on cable) was also slow today.

Now that they lowered the Homeland Security Alert to yellow from High -- the *)*_+&(^*%%$ will have fun!

Could be several factors. John says he doesn't see any obvious signs of denial of service attack, but who knows? These guys can get pretty tricky. We have been fighting an intermittent problem with the data base software for a couple years. It crops up every now and again and drags the system to it's knees. Kinda tricky to track down and even trickier to fix. Or the growing load on the server could've hit a knee on one of the system component's performance chart. John's been working on it all day and is trying to isolate and identify the problem. Hopefully, we'll have it all running smoothly again soon.

Even the FReeper site on Yahoo is slow or nonexsistent...The web does seem to be slow on other sites also.

I've also noticed slowness on other sites today, too, whether on DSL or at home on dialup....for instance, on MSN tonight, their e-mail "server was too busy".....that was the message I got when trying to get into my e-mail....finally, after 5 attempts, I could get into it.

a free fire wall, which I also have and mine's also been going crazy, especially for the port 137, at about 70 - 76% of the attacks.

see zone alarm here (there's a free version and a pay version (zone alarm pro), I've been using free version fine).

Fatima - get the free version of ZoneAlarm from the bottom of this page. It is a "must have" and it is free!

Normal seems to fluctuate.....right now, it's "normal" lol to be probed/attacked at port 137. See here: dshield

A few months ago, port 1431 or 1434 was being probed all the time; before that, it was another port.

You can go to here on dshield to get more information about ports and frequent attackers: DShield Reports and Database Summaries
