February 26, 2003 -- AMERICAN plans for Iraq look a lot more like a coup d'etat than an invasion. By aiming surgically at the leaders in Baghdad and isolating them from the rest of the military structure they command, President Bush seeks to decapitate the Iraqi leadership rather than conquer the nation.

This plan sounds more like it. Someone with a brain. I wish I'd thought of a plan like this. Can't say that I did. LOL.

Dick Morris saying the following words about Bush. Who could have predicted this 10 years ago? Clinton's former friends are beginning to see the truth:
"The creativity of the plans in Afghanistan (relying on the Northern Alliance to do the bulk of the fighting) and in Iraq (fomenting a coup with outside forces) attests to the wisdom of U.S. policymakers. Their combination of creativity and fortitude stands us all in good stead."

you know the most enjoyable part of this....the look of sheer horror on the average lefty after the war....HA HA HA...a nice neat sniper hole in the auld lefty theory there...
just let your mind wander...
dancing civilians, spitting on pics of saddam
jailed political prisoners let go after years of terror
a stunned middle east, as dictator after dictator shit themselves that it is working...after all the rhetoric they whipped up,
a very dodgy looking Iran, Syria, Jordan, Saudi and WHY HAVE THEY NOT GOT DEMOCRACY questions bubbling around
and best of all,,,
a very quiet chirac, begging for the rebuilding work...and offering his best division (FOREIGN legion -- interesting that dont you think?) to help in the clean-up
now that is a day, to sit back, arms behind the head, watching the sun set, quietly thinking to yourself __ HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA -- march on that suckers!!!!

Re #2
The American war on terrorism is as much a military operation as a political one. The war takes on a political movement rather than well-defined military in uniforms.
The combination of political/psychological dimension along with high-tech weaponery will be the essence of this war. The whole enterprise is more like a covert operation on a larger scale.
I think that Rummy is a step or two ahead of military brass by pushing this new form of warfare now.

Saddam could test detonate a 20-megaton nuke in the Iraqi desert and those fools would say it was still more reason to let the inspectors continue their work. They are beyond convincing. We might as well get used to that fact.

Yeah, and keep in mind that Morris is no lover of Republicans, nor a drinker of "W" kool-ade.
Although Morris is a little loopy, his analysis is usually right on the mark.

Many good points but oil wells will be blown up (rendered unuseable) and poison gas used. It will be messy. Not super messy but American boys will die.
Saddam will try to go out in a blazing chariot to be remembered as an Islmaic hero. He will have some sucess but not as much as he wants.

Oh SWELL... Yes, it sounds like a FANTASTIC plan!
But it would be a whole lot more successful if it weren't PUBLISHED FIRST.
I know a much of what we've seen lately is just disinformation, but this sounds like a great strategy :-(

Let's all pray that history unfolds just as you have written. But history also tells us that war rarely transpires as its instigators expect. With chemical and biological weapons at the enemy's disposal, the risks are greater than you suggest.

Here's the thing about Saddam and his "I'll Scorch My OWN Earth, Thank You Very Much!" policy.
It makes zero sense now. The whole bloody world now knows that he plans something like this to blame it on the U.S. Well.............ummm.................won't work if everyone already knows it would be him, not us, right? So, why bother? Saddam is worse than yer average 10 year old schoolyard bully; dumb as a box of rocks.

You know it. I know it. But if Saddam goes out in a blaze of glory the Muslim world will lap it up. If many oil wells are trashed and Europe suffers oil shortages they will blame us, not Saddam.
IOW Saddam plays very well outside of America and his lies and destruction will be blamed on the USA. You place too much faith in logical thinking.

Saddam could test detonate a 20-megaton nuke in the Iraqi desert and those fools would say it was still more reason to let the inspectors continue their work. They are beyond convincing. We might as well get used to that fact. That's the ultimate proof that inspections are working. He's destroying his weapons of mass destruction. Go Blix, go!

The only reason why battle plans are being published is so that Saddam can read them.
He has no idea what will happen to him. Neither do we.
But Rummy does.

Sure hope that if this "perfect" surgical precision plan doesn't work out exactly as planned, our military will be willing to slog it out hand to hand with the Iraqis and take casualties.
In war nothing is even remotely predictable.

everyone already knows it would be him, not us, right? So, why bother? The second motivation was to deny usage, or at least immediate usage. The same as in Kuwait. It will only delay, not deny, but he's expecting to die, so why not?!!! Blackbird.
