CONSERVATIVE ALERT

ISSUE: Last week, we told you how the State of California's Legislative Data Center has been blocking all email messages sent by citizens opposed to tax increases, who sent their messages through a pro-family organization's web site. We asked you to send your own message to Democrat leaders there, to remind them of citizens' constitutional rights to communicate with their elected representatives. Nearly 6,000 of you "reached out and touched someone" on this issue.

We've just learned of a similar situation... with an unusual twist. Instead of a government entity blocking emails FROM a particular conservative site, a U.S. military entity is blocking access TO a particular conservative site.

The Center for American Unity (cfau.org) is a national non- profit educational organization dedicated to preserving our historical unity as Americans into the 21st Century. The Center's education program emphasizes that America's common language, English, is the basic bond uniting and strengthening the United States. As part of this program, CFAU runs a website called VDARE.com.

The editor of the site, Peter Brimelow, is a brilliant conservative thinker and respected journalist. The site is concerned with "national identity" questions: immigration, affirmative action, bilingual education, multiculturalism, etc. Celebrated columnist Michelle Malkin's column makes a regular appearance at the site, along with many others.

And U.S. soldiers in Kuwait are being denied access to view it.

One of those soldiers sent this note to Brimelow: "Thought you'd like to know that some Army knucklehead out here in Kuwait has blocked access to vdare.com as an 'advocacy group'. Just brillig. We can fight halfway around the world but not defend our native soil."

Maybe it's a sensitive issue... but we think our guys (and gals) in the military should get a break on this one.

ACTION ITEM: You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who supports our troops overseas more than we do. While we understand the need to restrict access on military office computers to websites that are "mission-critical," American soldiers are still American citizens, and deserve the freedom to view "advocacy group" websites such as CFAU's -- at least in their off-hours.

Go to our site below to contact the Public Affairs Office for the U.S. Army in Kuwait, and ask them to forward your request that the local commanders stop blocking access to conservative sites like VDARE.com for soldiers who wish to view them when they're off duty:
