This is great news and should invoke cloture for the filibuster to allow a vote which will confirm Mr. Estrada!

A few quotes from today's press conference:

"We urge every Senator to treat Miguel Estrada fairly and to vote to confirm." - Hispanic Bar Assn.

"We don't want to be treated as double standards." -Robert de Posada, Latino Coalition

"This is a very serious issue for our community and no politician should take this lightly. We urge the Senate to act responsibly and urge an up or down vote. " - Robert de Posada, Latino Coalition

"It's of grave concern to those of us with family in the military and overseas that Rome is burning while the Senate is fiddling." - Kay Daly, spokesperson for the "Coalition for a Fair Judiciary."

"We rarely have seen, if ever, a record of accomplishment (like) Miguel Estrada." - Juan Carlos Iturregui, Hispanic National Bar Assn.

"We urge Senate to vote on this confirmation NOW. Not next month..." -Juan Carlos Iturregui, Hispanic National Bar Assn.

"We also are concerned that some members of the Senate are trying to impose a higher standard of review that is unprecidented." - Juan Carlos Iturregui, Hispanic National Bar Assn.

If anyone can translate these quotes into Spanish for Yehuda to distribute, please ping Yehuda. Thank you.

FREEPers, I have created the ultimate Estrada activism thread. On it you will find ways to contact Senators, newsspapers, radio/tv people, organizations etc. Go there and help support Estrada. Keep the thread bumped until we get him confirmed.

Hi, PKM! The press conference was held in DC and shown on C-Span. A few fun facts: Barbara Boxer received so many pro-Miguel calls this past week that she's not taking calls in Ca., and the grassroots support for Miguel is strong nationwide!

Freepers still need to call our Senators. Sen. Graham's office was staying out of the fight last week (Fla. hot potato), but now they're telling callers that Democrats won't support Miguel because he may be the President's nominee for the USSC. In other words, "Miguel's so qualified we can't allow him a vote" (Graham as weasel and rat).

On Fox tonight they were showing Leahy's comments from the late 90's where he said it was wrong to filibuster a nominee and he would never do a filibuster if he approved or disapproved of a nominee.

Times do change when it comes to a RAT saying something like Leahy!

RC, This Estrada might go to the SC was the same nonsense the Graham aide told me today. I basically told her, all Bush nominees could end up there, and she insisted no, this one is different. LIBERAL translation: NOW won't let me vote for this guy because they're afraid of what Bush MIGHT appoint this guy to 6 months...2 years down the road.

The Nelson aide I talked to sounded kind of wishy-washy today. I think Nelson might be having second thoughts. I hope those ads if Fla make a big impact on Nelson!

I love it -- Boxer not taking calls in CA!

Graham is a weasel -- going to come back to haunt him if he runs for Pres IMO!

"Being Hispanic for us means much more than having a surname," said New Jersey Rep. Bob Menendez, a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. "It means having some relationship with the reality of what it is to live in this country as a Hispanic American."

This is the Democrat case against Estrada...

Have the 'rats run this thing through enough iterations that they've decided "Hey, if we don't stop Mr. E, we'll lose more people that want to kill babies than we'll gain in Latinos - we've got most of them anyway"?

Dems. aren't allowed to think for themselves anymore, didn't you know? They each willingly sold out Miguel and our country for personal power. The Clinton legacy...the corruption and undermining of our institutions, laws, traditions spreads.

I'll call Nelson and Graham again tomorrow... spread the word in S. Florida.

I've been doing daily calls except when I was on vacation. Don't know if I want to talk to Graham's aide again...she seemed a little "snippy"
