Daley Gun Control Proposal Threatens to Split Illinios Democratic Party Says Illinois State Rifle Association

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Feb. 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

A gun control proposal introduced Thursday by Chicago Mayor Richard Daley will test the independence of newly elected Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich.

Under the Daley proposal, law-abiding citizens would be forced to pay a significant increase in the application fee for an Illinois Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card. Illinois citizens must possess valid FOID cards in order to own or purchase firearms and ammunition. Any proposals to raise FOID fees are typically seen as punitive attempts to restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms.

This latest Daley gun control plan stands in direct conflict with campaign promises made by Governor Blagojevich. While an Illinois House member, Blagojevich introduced legislation that would raise the FOID application fee from its present $5 to a whopping $500. That proposal haunted Blagojevich on the campaign trail - especially in southern Illinois where hunters and sportsmen bristled at the notion of having their right to hunt taxed 100-fold. Blagojevich successfully soothed the ire of downstate gun owners promising never to approve an increase in the FOID fee.

"Mayor Daley is placing Governor Blagojevich and some key House and Senate Democrats in a difficult position," commented ISRA president Richard Pearson. "Blagojevich carried downstate Illinois largely on his promise not to raise FOID fees. A number of southern Illinois legislators put a lot on the line trying to convince their constituents that that promise was indeed genuine. Now we see Daley using political muscle to force the governor to go back on that promise."

"How Blagojevich responds to the Daley proposal to increase FOID fees will be a clear indication of just who has the governor's ear - Daley or the voters," continued Pearson. "Downstate Democrats could find themselves smack in the middle of a huge credibility gap - and God help any one of them that votes for the Daley gun control scheme."

Daley's plan calls for a simple 2500% increase from $5 every five years to $25 each year. No big deal.

Hey IL voters, Belogabitch is in power now, and has both houses of the legislature. Guess what? His campaign promises mean nothing; he's a democrat! Duh! Remember Clinton and his middle class tax cut?

Wait until you see what the Socialists do with the "no new taxes" pledge they made!

Ok guys, to be fair; I do feel your pain. I live in WI and we now have Doyle (Thanks Ed!). I have good friends in IL. I know you have the Shitcago machine which produces alot of "interesting" votes. Plus you have the odd balls around Marion (ie, a nearby town is named "Redbud" - think about it). I'm not laughing at you; really, I am crying with you.

I wish you luck; you will need it in the next couple of years.

Blagojevich

Old Blag is a big time gun grabber in his own right. He's always been a Daly man. That "campaign promise" to not raise the FOID fee was just vaporware. Any gun owner that voted for him on that basis must have been inhaling some vapors of their own. I wouldn't be surprised to see a compromise, whereby the bill is modified to keep the FOID fee the same, but required a state run "safety course", the fee for which is $500, thus allowing Blag (the impaler) to keep his "promise" in the Clintonian fashion.

I used to travel in illinois a lot and liked to stop at the occasional gun shop if it looked promising. One place down near Shawneetown had a lovely 16 gauge A-5 that looked in 95 percent condition. I put down two $100 bills and offered to put the remaining $500 on my Visa, but no luck. I couldn't buy the shotgun because my driver's license didn't say Illinois.
I went back to my customer's office and in 20 minutes, had the shotgun tucked away in my trunk.

I have a theory that the czars of big, urban areas are keeping such tight control on lawful possession and carry because they are afraid minorities might buy guns. The horrors! People might want to take control of their own lives and protection!! Daley's actions are racist at best.

This is just great!!! Just what the evil donkey needs: A reminder that the rats will grab every gun they can and to hell with the 2nd Amendment.
This position hurt the evil donkey the last time out and they HAD been trying to back away from gun grabing. Now comes this nit wit daley. Oh what a pleasant thought on a cold winter's day.

Downstate Illinois Democrats still think Truman's running things. The reality of three decades of incremental leftism into the decision-making apparatus of their treasured party is lost to them. Mention the Democratic party's fetish for gun control and they stare at you as though you'd wizzed on FDR's grave. They're in complete denial, and are about to reap what they have sown vis a vis the far left Dem machine from the north.

Oh, I think Blag might resist Daley, but if "Big Daddy" Dick Mell orders it, it's as good as done. Let's all remember that Dick Mell is the real Governor of Illinois.
