GA Anti-gun Bill HB197 Update
Citizens for Safe Government (NOT associated in any way with the NRA) ^ | 2/17/03 | CSG e-mail alert

Posted on 02/18/2003 4:23:18 AM PST by from occupied ga

Atlanta, Monday, February 17) -- Heavy pressure from gun owners across Georgia caused House bosses to again delay a showdown on the HB197 Stealth Triggerlock bill.

You've done an outstanding job in preventing the anti-gunners from advancing their legislation for a second straight week. The earliest the bill can now come to the floor of the House is Wed. Feb. 26.

With CSG Legislative Director Bill Phillips out with the flu, the report from Capitol today came from CSG Lobbyist Ronnie Farr:

"Numerous calls from gun owners today generated growing support for Rep. Bobby Franklin's Self-Defense amendment to HB197," he said. "But we're still seeing a lot of fence-sitters, especially among Democrat Reps. from rural districts."

If you haven't called your state Rep. yet, make sure you call their office tomorrow before they return home for a week.

A sequencing error with the Reps. telephone list included with the last CSG alert caused some problems today, but a number of members reported they were eventually able to get through to the right office.

"We apologize for the mistake and appreciate the patience of gun owners who persisted in turning up the heat," said CSG President Marston Tuck.

A corrected Capitol office telephone list for the Georgia House of Representatives is included with this alert.

It's vital you keep the pressure on the politicians by calling the office of your state Rep. if you haven't already done so. The House adjourns for a week beginning Wed. Feb. 19, but their Capitol offices will remain open to receive your calls during regular business hours all week.

The HB197 Stealth Triggerlock bill says if you keep a gun unlocked so it's ready for self-defense, anti-gun officials can come to your home or in your car, arrest you, and confiscate your guns. Rep. Bobby Franklin's Self-Defense amendment to HB197 will stop them.

ACTION ITEMS

  1. Get your state House district number by calling the Registrar of Voters or the Voter Registration office in your county.
  2. Get the name and telephone number of your state Rep. (or Reps. if you live in a multi-member district) from the corrected list below. Call with a message saying to vote for Rep. Bobby Franklin's Self-Defense amendment to HB197.
  3. Send a copy of this e-mail to every gun owner you know in Georgia.

This is good news for a change, but only if we keep the pressure up. The new "axis of evil" (the anti-gunners and the "child protection" advocates) have a very strong base in the Atlanta area. The delay allows organizations like CSG and GOA to contact their base in GA and get them mobilized against this bill, or at least mobilise support for the self defense amendment. The Bill itself is so vague it can be used to criminalize virtually anything, and this is what the anti-gunners want to use it against gun owners and what the "child protection" types want to empower themselves to go after any family.

There is a new anti-gun group in GA which is a consolidation of the old groups and has been given a big shot in the arm by a $60,000 donation from Andrew McKelvy (monster.com among other things) They are particularly dangerous because they are so well funded and can affors to spend a lot of money phone banking and mailing to their bedwetting friends and fellow travelers. In addition, the Atlanta Urinal/Constipation provides free propaganda/advertising to the antigun side.

Once again the NRA is missing when the brown stuff hits the fan. I guess they couldn't figure out a way to sell out gun ownerscompromise away gun owners' rights on this one so they sat it out.

Thanks! Please feel free to post it anywhere you want - the more the better.

I just talked to one of the lobbyists from CSG, and he said there is a real alliance of something called the "Atlanta Fulton County Child Commission" and the new anti-gun, pro-government group, "Georgians for Gun Safety" (This is the coalition that was funded by McKelvy) He also said that the CSG guys were getting one hell of a lot of dirty looks from the new axis of evil people. This is good.

Appreciate the info... I just sent a flurry of BCC mass emails to the "critters" who claim to represent us, so we'll see what develops.

You are aware of Women Against Gun Control?

http://www.wagc.com

Altho I don't visit them much, it's a nice small board, and one of the first I joined long ago.

I have a million things plaguing me today... I will try to locate that "GiantGeorgiaFReeperList" I have somewhere on a floppy and email it to you.

Just once I'd like to go on the offensive. I'd like to get all the pro gun legislatures to propose moderate, common sense first ammendment controls. You know television channel locks, mandatory training before purchase of a Xbox, registration and a waiting period to by a printer, that sort of thing.

My point is how much of "right" is it when you have to spend a significant amount of time preventing it from being widdled away to nothing. Not much, I'd say.

This doesn't mean we should stop fighting, but somehow we need to work towards a strategy that ends the absurd flow of unconstitutional laws once and for all.

Thank you, all... I'm trying to get some things straightened out with my Mother & the nursing home ( been going on a week ) but I am telling the SOB's in the Capitol that I am keeping a keen eye on their doings. I have a very long memory for people who want to shackle my freedom.

Aw, it's the to-be-expected stuff... my Mom's deteriorating, needs higher levels of care, more money spent, lawyers & administrators circling like buzzards- I'm getting it straightened out, but it is wearying.

So far there have been 75 "looks" at the article here:

Which is pretty good for a 3,700 member site.

Want to tell lots of people about this? Go here:

Ignorance Making You Ill? Cure It!

for links, tools, & instructions about how to contact a pile of different people, and how to send a link to this story right here ( or anywhere else ) to a "mass email" using Outlook Express.

Do be advised that since I increased my volume of mass emails to letters to editors I have gotten return volleys of virus attacks- my ISP filters them out before the get to my PC, but if yours does not, take appropriate precautions to guard your PC.

I take this as a positive- my emails are simply links with no editorial content; so the other side must fear & loath the information even reaching the public.

Want to strike back at the malicious & childish clowns who send spam and viruses? Look here:

... for online traceroutes and other help, so you can email all the ISP's in the chain that propagated the garbage, and let them investigate.
