N.R.A. Snags 'Doctor Phil' in Anti-gun Lie

National Rifle Association has caught Phillip McGraw, the T.V. psychologist who dubs himself "Dr. Phil," in an absurd anti-gun lie.

According to this month's issue of the NRA magazine America's 1st Freedom, McGraw clucked as he had young boys play with toy guns on his program. "There are five children a day killed with guns through either accidents or suicides," McGraw claimed.

That would be more than 1,800 a year. In reality:

"If, by children, Dr. Phil meant 10 and under, like he used in his 'experiment,' approximately 50 children die from handgun violence," the magazine says in an article headlined "TV's New Rosie O'Donnell."

McGraw specified gun "accidents and suicides." The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, however, reports only 86 accidental deaths and 110 suicides involving firearms in children 14 and under in 2000.

"Maybe Dr. Phil will make sure he has some facts in hand before spouting off next time," America's 1st Freedom says.

Banning guns is always "for the children." It doesn't matter what lie they have to speak for the gun haters to push their agenda of banning all civilian firearms.

It also doesn't matter TWICE this number are killed DAILY in auto accidents (though they are trying like HELL to kill SUV's!), it's always the gun that needs to be controlled!

The gun is not relevant to the suicides so toss those numbers out. They would have found some other way to kill themselves.

What is sad is that kids 14 and under are committing self-murder before they have had a chance to even live.

The problem is that this was in an NRA publication. The people who heard his lie on the popular media will never here the truth and will believe the lie. The people reading the NRA magazine probably already know the truth.

The article could be better written. It could have also pointed out that the statistics about childred killed by firearms includes gangbangers who are under 18 (or is it 21).
