The article misses the real point. By letting state attornies off the hook politically and letting otherwise local cases be handled at the federal level, the populace fails to see the need for the death penalty. In New England, I can think of two prominent cases that were bumped up to the federal level so the death penalty could be in play, thus mitgating the potential for the body politic to demand that the death penalty be reinstated.
