War is an ugly thing!
UNKNOWN | UNKNOWN

Posted on 02/05/2003 8:08:53 PM PST by SandRat

War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is worse.

A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight; nothing he cares about more than his own personal safety; is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

There are many tens of thousands of such people here in the U.S.

The truth is that the vast majority of people can not handle freedom and prefer the safety of bondage under their masters.

And UGLY is the word for the America haters who suck up our freedoms and take all the bounty this Country provides, never for a moment thinking of the young blood spilled to gain and defend these freedoms, yes that is the hight of all uglyness.

Of course war is ugly, it's not like some action movie where Jean Claude Van Damme beats the crud out of the Iraqi army, kills Saddam Hussein and steals his girlfriend in 90 minutes.

"A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague."

- Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman Orator - 106-43 B.C.

Those here and abroad seeking to postpone war have as their unspoken goal the demise of the United States. In the vacuum created by a catastrophic incident or incidents in this nation (and the terrorist networks are closely allied with Saddam's vision), France, Germany, Russia, China, and the democrat leaderhip in America believe they will gain illimitable empowerment. Only with the U.S. in shambles can those now waiting in the wings to seize power here and abroad realize their lusts for power. The rise of radical Wahhabi demonic urge cannot blossom fully if the U.S. is capable of waging financial and military war on their surrogates. That cancerous Islamic surge added to the international and domestic discordant equation makes the survival of this nation the REAL reason why we must crush the Iraq dictator and his Ba'athist goons.

War is an ugly thing....and 9-11 is a good reminder. It's good vs evil, no matter how you cut it.

I beg to differ. There are those of us who simply aren't convinced, and have every reason (in my case, three children who I want to grown up in the best world possible) to hope that America experiences nothing but prosperity into the future.

The ease with which you (and others) are willing to generalize is as much an indicator of war being entered into thoughtlessly as I can imagine. In some respects I don't blame any American for being rabid for blood - given the tragedy of 9/11 - but I have not yet been able to relinquish my own tendency to think critically, nor my distrust for all politicians.

Did you see Estrich when she sat in for Colmes on Hannity &Colmes (was several months ago)? She found hair care products and didn't look half bad. She also toned down her parrot like voice. It was like she was a different person.

And just what will it take to 'convince' you that Iraq and the Islamic terrorists organizations are a threat to this nation, to your kids, to my granddaughter? Do an FR search on Salman Pak, Duke.

The democrat party courts our disaster for their empowerment. Frankly, I don't care whether you can fathom that or not. I intend to continue speaking out regardless of how noodled you and likeminded brains becomes. Peace in our time? You have to fight for it sometimes, Duke. I see the reason to fight now, not put things off and allow the Iraqi dictator to acquire the weapons that will empower his blackmail while he arms with WMD the terorists he uses for our demise. The ease with which you (and others) are willing to generalize is as much an indicator of war being entered into thoughtlessly as I can imagine. Your sel-appointed pedestal is tarnish, I won't polish it further for you and your ilk.

Like anything else, war is what you make of it. I served a combat-intensive tour in RVN. I was young and supposedly invincible. That experience, more than any other, shaped my life and who I am. I would not trade that experience for anything. I was proud to serve then, and even prouder today that I did it. In general, war is bad, but sometimes necessary. Now is one of those times. I fear for those who will go, but something in me also envies them.

Ok, then, since you're so certain that war is the best course with regard to Iraq then why don't you persuade me rather than call me names? I'm listening, tell me what evidence of a threat to this country has persuaded you to believe we should go to war against Iraq?

What evidence is so great that it should cause us to break our national tradition of not initiating hostilities? I would dearly love to be convinced, but so far all I hear is namecalling, and that ain't gonna get it!

Or is it simply for you a matter of trusting our politicos?

If the US population is 290 million, I would estimate the number to be at least 280 million and increasing. If it was any more we would have had a Tea Party years ago.

That won't make him feel better.

I didn't see any of the anti-war people marching when this country attacked Yugoslavia. And I didn't see any of the pro-war people here supporting it. I guess they must have been traitors to their country.

I am ready to be called a traitor because I point this out. (Even though I support this war.)

Yeah, the clinton style war: Shoot an empty tent, and a camel in the butt with a multi-million dollars cruise missile, declare a huge victory, and move on.

I seriously doubt that ANYTHING could convince your ilk. I gave to you a name; you've apparently chosen to ignore that piece of data so why should I bother with you further?
