As if we didn't have enough problems, this morning we are faced with the disclosure that North Korea has been secretly conducting a major nuclear weapons development program. Thank you, Bill Clinton.
No, I am not just trying to score cheap political points against the former president that I battled for eight years in Washington. The facts are clear.
The Clinton administration pursued a policy toward North Korea based on all the central bromides of 'feel good' liberalism. Faced with a dark rogue regime led by maniacs, Clinton and Secretary of State Madeline Albright decided that if we could just talk more to the paranoid communist dictators, give them money and help improve their economy, the "misunderstanding" between our two countries would be eliminated.
We poured billions of dollars of foreign aid into North Korea in the 90s. In fact, they were the largest aid recipient of any country in the Asia-Pacific region -- $6 billion dollars. Under an agreement signed in 1994, with the help of Jimmy Carter, we not only ponied up money, we provided them over 500,000 tons of fuel oil per year and agreed to help them build nuclear power plants!
And now today, we see the fruits of this "see no evil" foreign policy - the balance of power in Asia has shifted against us and the interests of our allies.
Will we learn anything from this? Will the Nobel Peace Prize Committee learn anything, or the U.N. bureaucrats, or the "peace at any price" crowd, or the "blame America first" gang? No, no, no, no and no.
But let's try to explain the lesson anyway: Peace and safety cannot be secured by signing worthless agreements, treaties or protocols with thugs. It didn't work with Hitler. It didn't work with Stalin. It hasn't worked with Saddam Hussein. In fact, it has never worked!
Leaders like Carter and Clinton, like Chamberlain before them, don't bring peace. They promote war by tempting evil men to conclude that we are weak and afraid.
Winning the peace is left to the Churchills, Reagans and Thatchers of the world - leaders willing to rally free people to confront clear and present danger.
I think, in fact, they are weak and afraid, or at least weak and foolish. Clinton is additionally missing parts of a normal personality.
Kim or Bill? Both?
This clown pulled more -- er -- dangerous stunts than about any other POTUS. Don't you long for the good old days when he was just pulling things over that oval office area sink?
Clintoon's book will be published by Alfred Knopf Publishing.
Knopf is 13th Century German for incredibly stupid buyer of other peoples garbage. Knopf is a very old publishing house best known for such early classics as
How to Enjoy The Inquisition by Father Torquemada
You Get My Point? by Vlad the Impaler
Guillotine Maintenance and Repair by Citizen Robespierre
Three of their more recent offerings are PeeWee Hermans Movie Guide, Gary Condits Guide to Picking Up Chicks and Compared to Us, Ponzi Was a Freakin Choirboy co-authored by Gary Winnick, Ken Lay and Terry McAuliffe.
All available in a dumpster or landfill near you!
Gary has nailed a fundamental truth about the 'real' world. . .but of course, Liberals cannot recognize 'evil'; since they live it as Liberalism. . .
Which personality? I've counted three.
