DEMOCRATS IN DISARRAY ON ECONOMY

While President Bush Leads With A Specific Proposal To Stimulate Growth And Strengthen America’s Economy, Democrats Can’t Agree On A Plan

______________________________________________________________________________________

“[I]t Is Unclear Whether Democrats Can Unite Behind Specific Stimulus Proposals. While Some In The House Criticized Bush’s Plans To Reduce Taxes On Dividend Income, Some Senate Democrats Have Embraced Such A Move.” (Bob Kemper, "Democrats Assail Bush On Economy, War On Terrorism," Chicago Tribune, January 4, 2003)

_______________________________________________________________________________________

PRESIDENT BUSH’S JOBS AND GROWTH PLAN WILL STRENGTHEN THE AMERICAN ECONOMY

President Bush’s Growth Proposals Will Spur Consumer Spending, Promote Small Businesses, Increase Consumer Confidence And Extend Unemployment Assistance. Central elements of the President’s proposal include: 1. Accelerating the 2001 tax cuts to increase the pace of the economic recovery and job creation; 2. Promoting investment by individuals and businesses that will lead to economic growth and job creation; and 3. Delivering critical help to unemployed citizens. (President George W. Bush, Remarks To The Economic Club Of Chicago, January 7, 2003; “Taking Action To Strengthen America’s Economy,” The White House, January 7, 2003)

DEMOCRATS REMAIN IN DISARRAY ON THE ECONOMY

“Senate Democrats Have Not Generated [An Economic] Plan Of Their Own Yet.” (Louise Schiavone, CNNfn’s “The Money Gang,” January 7, 2003)

Senators Kerry And Baucus At Odds With Fellow Democrats Over Ending The Double Taxation Of Dividends. While Kerry has endorsed the measure and Finance Committee Ranking Member Baucus is open to ending double taxation of dividends, Senators Daschle, Lieberman, Edwards & Reid all oppose the proposal. (Senator John Kerry, Remarks To The City Club Of Cleveland, December 3, 2002; Jonathan Weisman, “Senior Hill Democrat Offers Tax-Cut Plan,” The Washington Post, December 20, 2002; Senator Tom Daschle, Democratic Response To The President’s Weekly Radio Address, January 4, 2003; Senator Joe Lieberman, Press Release, January 7, 2003; Senator John Edwards, ABC’s “This Week,” January 5, 2003; Senator Harry Reid, NBC's “Meet The Press,” January 5, 2003)

Democrats Have Advanced Competing Proposals For Encouraging Growth Among Small Businesses. While Senator Lieberman proposes an information technology investment tax credit, Senator Kerry advocates a $250,000 small business tax deferral. Senator Edwards wants to increase by 50% the current investment depreciation bonus while Gephardt calls for a one-time tax incentive for company investments. Still, House Democrats propose doubling the total amount small businesses may expense for new investments made in 2003. (Senator Joe Lieberman, Remarks At NASDAQ MarketSite, October 18, 2002; Senator John Kerry, Remarks To The City Club Of Cleveland, December 3, 2002; Senator John Edwards, Remarks To FORTUNE Global Forum, November 12, 2002; Representative Dick Gephardt, Remarks To Economic Policy Institute, October 15, 2002; House Democratic Economic Stimulus Plan, January 6, 2003)

Democrats’ Proposals For Tax Relief For Individuals And Families Run The Gamut.

--While House Democrats propose a one-time, refundable income tax rebate, Senate Democrats have failed to endorse a tax rebate. (House Democratic Economic Stimulus Plan, January 6, 2003)

--Senators Kerry and Lieberman favor a payroll tax holiday while the House Democratic stimulus plan rejects payroll tax reductions. (Senator John Kerry, Remarks To The City Club Of Cleveland, December 3, 2002; Senator Joe Lieberman, Remarks At NASDAQ MarketSite, October 18, 2002; House Democratic Economic Stimulus Plan, January 6, 2003)

--Other Democrats suggest increasing the minimum wage or providing a $500 energy tax credit is the right course of action. (Representative Dick Gephardt, Remarks To Economic Policy Institute, October 15, 2002; Senator John Edwards, Remarks To FORTUNE Global Forum, November 12, 2002)

The Democrats are in disarray because at the center of their counter proposal is a "working man's" tax cut. Imagine: the Democrats proposing a tax cut! I tell you folks, we've won! When the Dems can only counter with a tax cut of their own, we've won! Of course, a tax cut runs completely contrary to the typical Congressional Democrat mindset. So they are suffering from an identity crisis right now. The Democrat Party has stood for nothing for so long, they don't know what they stand for. Bush, I think, realizes this, and he should press his advantage through the confused opposition.

“Senate Democrats Have Not Generated [An Economic] Plan Of Their Own Yet.”

They're gonna get their butts handed to them on this one.

hahahahahahaha

Big bump from one of Daschle's "WRONG PEOPLE".

Sorry I didn't respond on yesterday's Schumer/racist thread. I hit the road right after my post.

No problem! I didn't get back last night to reply to comments either.

RNC is sure getting a head start on 2004! Nice to see them so active and out in force supporting the President. What a difference from the old days!

Have a good one from one Wrong person to another! I cannot believe daschle was dumb enough to make that statement! LOL!

Here is one of the best rebuttals to the rats from Larry Kudlow. Many of us would like to see Larry Kudlow replace Alan the Greenspamer, if and when Alan decides to retire and just be a trophy husband for his lib mediot wife. (President Bush has surprised nearly everyone with his decision to propose a big-bang economic growth package that includes a 100 percent tax exemption on dividends received by individuals. Eliminating the double taxation of corporate dividends will raise stock market values, increase investor returns, and improve both corporate governance and corporate finance practices, in effect becoming the most significant pro-growth tax reform since President Ronald Reagan slashed personal income-tax rates 20 years ago. )

For a Democrat to even THINK about tax cuts is like a Packers fan saying "Go Vikes!"

I emailed a friend today who wrote to me that he's PO'ed cause his meager middle-income salary places him in the Democrats' "Top 10%" who ought to be soaked, that the Democratic Party has been bankrupt and bereft of issues since the early 1960s. Tell me one Democrat program that has been instituted since Medicare? Clinton's midnight basketball, perhaps? But since the majority of Americans woke up in the mid-60s to the realization that government was not the solution to every problem, the Democrats haven't come evolved to the new reality. What they have done, however, is eeked out occasional electoral victories nationally primarily by appealing to the Baby Boom generation -- arguably the most self-absorbed and irresponsible generation of the last century, if not ever. The Dems have appealed to this cohort through policies that are self-centered and irresponsible. As the Boomers start to age and become supplanted by more pragmatic younger generations, the Republican Party (if it projects it's message clearly) will become as unassailable a majority party as the Democrats were in the 1930's and '40s. So goes my theory.

There was an article about "The Wrong People" getting the tax cut and a rebuttal. It included the figure that 51% of the elderly get dividends, and some other demographics of who the tax-cut affects.

You mean that simpleton, low-wattage, limited brain-powered George W. Bush? What does it say about the Dems that they are constantly out-foxed by someone they say is as dumb as a hammer. The Dems must be dumb as a nail.
