North Korea puts banned guns on South border (in violation of an armistice accord)

AFP[ FRIDAY, DECEMBER 27, 2002 02:46:09 PM ]

SEOUL: North Korean troops have brought banned machine guns into the tense border with South Korea in violation of an armistice accord, the United Nations Command (UNC) said on Friday.

Light machine guns were set up during work to reconnect cross-border road and railway links in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on several occasions over a period of seven days in December, the UNC said in a statement.

The UNC, which monitors compliance with the armitice agreement that ended the 1950-53 Korean War, said it requested a meeting with North Korea representatives to discuss the charges.

North Korean soldiers were observed setting up and manning light machine guns on various occasions between December 13-20 in the transportation corridor that runs through the western section of the DMZ, the UNC said.

North Korea denied the charges in a message to South Korea's defense ministry 10 days ago but has refused to discuss the matter with the UNC.

The two Koreas agreed in September to allow their border guards to carry only a rifle with 30 live bullets inside DMZ-cross corridors, where rail and road links are intended to be built.

N. Korea is setting itself up for an asswhooping. I think it is time we follow the Isreali's example and bomb their nuclear power plants into rubble. This guy is way overplaying his hand, and like Quaddaffi in the 80s needs to be put back it his place pronto.

WHAAAAA!!!! Will "Die another day" become reality???

No joke, there´s a growing fear for a new Korean war. Kim Jong Il has nothing to lose, except his life. Maybe he´s gone mad (well in fact he IS mad!) and now he only sees one way to go.

Situation in Korea gets worse. The hopeful talks between two nations and appeasement didn´t help. North Koreans have no food, but a nuclar program. Great.

Unlike Saddam, N Korea has the damned ChiComs in his back supporting his fight for a united communist Korea.

Damned shit!!

The crazy commies and a bunch of fundamentalist Muslims.

Problem is, if not done right, the whole thing could literally blow up in our faces.

Can you say nuclear weapons? I knew ya could.... :(

Watch Red China!!!!!

China isn't interested in idling their factories just when capitalism is getting a foot-hold. The US is still an important source of currency for them.

Sounds good except for one tiny problem. Iraq's reactor was in the process of being built when IAF F-16s bombed it into rubble, whereas the N. Korean reactor is already fueled. As tempting as it may be to make most of N. Korea radioactive for the next 10,000 years, I don't think we need another "Chernobol" in the world.

South Korea's military is more than capable. I believe the US's mission in Korea changed in the early 90's from keeping the North from coming down to keeping the South from going up.

Yes the South Koreans are capable in a standup fight, but the North is going to use saboturers to divide the South Korean forces.

That´s why they accepted the last Iraq-resolution. Commies won´t let Commies die in US bombs. That´s why there was the Iron Curtain, you remember?

Bombing the nuclear power plants is no solution - or do you want to watch thankful South Koreans putting their crippled arms in the air to greet us via TV.

Fine, Bury the damned thing in concrete like Chernobyl... just be done with it. Damn Clinton foreign policy, or more appropriately lack thereof has put the entire world in chaos, and its time that we fix the touchy feely mess that bastard brought on us.
