Pushed by the Mexican government, the Bush administration is working on a Social Security accord that would put tens of thousands of Mexicans onto the Social Security roster and send hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits south of the border.

The point is, why keep adding fuel to the fire of Social Security? It's already a wasted burning pyre and the problem is that there is no more wood to throw in the fire, just quick burning gas to hasten the flame's demise.

The real solution, which I haven't seen G W Bush do jack sh*t about lately, would be to allow workers to opt out of Social Security. I would be perfectly happy to forget all about the money I've paid in over the last 14 years if it means I get to keep all of my money, which would have disappeared into Social Security's vote buying schema, for the next 30 years that I work. Being responsible, I would invest this in some things that would actually show growth and allow me to retire comfortably instead of poverty, which is about all SS offers.

Can we also "integrate" our health care system and send Fox a bill for all the illegals using our hospitals?

Can we "integrate" our penal system and send Fox a bill for the tens of thousands if illegal Mexicn trespassers in our prison systems?

Can we also "integrate" our school systems and send Fox a bill for the schooling of illegal Mexican nationals (kids) who are using our school system?

Allowing opt-outs isn't possible. Current receipts are the only thing being paid out to current beneficiaries. You're money is needed now.

Well... I came to the US (from Belgium) under a K1 visa, and I've been working pretty much for the whole time I've been here (more than 3 years), paying for social security with every single one of my paychecks. However, if I get any unemployment money from the government within the first ten years of my stay in the US, my wife has to repay all of it. It was the (fairly small) price to pay for moving here, and I accepted it. So why should Mexicans get a preferential treatment over me?

A way must be found. Continued functioning of Social Security isn't possible. It's broken, it cannot be fixed and there's going to be a LOT of pissed off, ANGRY Generation X and Generation Y people in a few years. VERY ANGRY.

Me too. I could do a much better job managing the money myself and at least then I would know I'm going to "GET" the money.....until they create a new tax to take it all back.

Our Representatives and Senators know that. Their main goal is to be retired with a fat pension before the sh*t hits the fan. Pushing reform of any kind will lose them their seat and ruin that plan, so they just play along.

Because most of them paid those taxes under FALSE ss #'s.

In addition, you need to read the entire article all the way down to the last paragraph to get the true flavor for what they are trying to pull.

Very sad. While unbelievable issues like this are routinely ignored by so called conservatives, but threads about Lott saying somthing at a birthday party generate 30 threads. We are indeed in big trouble.

"White House and Mexican government officials say discussions on an agreement to align the Social Security systems of the two countries are informal and preliminary."

And it had better stay that way.

Because you are white and from Europe. If you want preferential treatment you have to be from one of the 'disadvantaged victim' groups. /sarcasm(?)

why shouldn't they be able to receive Social Security?

Maybe we should make that entire country eligible for all our welfare programs, food stamps, TANF, and all the rest. It's just not FAIR to deprive them of our welfare programs when US citizens are able to get them.
