[history]
A terrible racial incident took place at Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott's alma mater last month. But you won't hear about it from Dan Rather or Time magazine or The Washington Post or the NAACP.
That's because what happened at the University of Mississippi in the early morning hours of Nov. 6 has all the markings of a fake hate crime: An apparent racial hoax committed by black students against black students, but blamed on whites until the suspects were nabbed last week.

Michelle (as usual) goes right to the core of the problem. Yet another gorgeous, conservative lady!
Now, on to my point: It looks like there will be NO criminal prosecution of these people! I am dead-set against the concept of "hate crime" legislation, but since it's in effect, and since these acts were clearly designed to a) cause racial divisions, fear, and hatred, and b) force the government to invoke those hate crime statutes, these people SHOULD be charged under the hate crime laws!

Miss Malkin was on the Howie Carr Show yesterday afternoon, taking phone calls and shmoozing.
Very informed woman with a keen sense of humor and the ability to think on her feet.

I was present near the beginning of this sort of thing. In 1971, I was in attendance at college when a young black woman, recently elected to a student government position, claimed to have been assaulted and showered with racial abuse by three white men. It touched off an extraordinary effort, on the part of all of us who lived in her dormitory, to find the assailants and bring them to justice.
After about a month of this scandal, which commanded ever-growing attention from the college's newspapers, student council and administration, the young woman admitted that she'd staged the whole thing -- supposedly to highlight racial-discrimination issues on our campus. The outrage over it was widespread and palpable, yet the young woman suffered no penalties of any kind, and more than a few black students defended her deeds on one specious ground or another.
Three decades have passed since then. It's clear that we've been moving in reverse, at full speed.

"The school's "minority affairs" director demanded that the university establish "programs and procedures" to ensure racial sensitivity and prevent hate crimes." That needs some editing to make it more clear.
The $chool's "minority affair$" director demanded that the univer$ity e$tabli$h "program$ and procedure$" to en$ure racial $en$itivity and prevent hate crime$.

Ok, well, if I were a student at Ole Miss, I'd sue the three offenders for defamation of character and mental distress/anguish. This is absolutely disgusting. Deemed a hate crime when it was white-on-black, but now just a prank when it's black-on-black???? Give me a frickin break. It's a crime, period.

I love Michelle Malkin. She's absolutely right. The perps in this should be charged with the originial hate crime, and no less, that would put a damper on this hoax stuff in a hurry.
