The national commission investigating what went wrong before 9/11 hasn't even begun work yet, but here's some advice for saving time and money: Shut it down. Spare us having to read what is now on course to become just one more exercise in partisan score-settling.

The NY Times want to make sure that any Republicans that are seated on this committee are glad-handing, compromising wimps, while any Democrats on the committee are the most rabid partisans that could be found on this earth.
That way, 9-11 will be squarely and firmly pinned on Bush's back and the Republicans on the committee will go along with a smile and a handshake.

More alarming still are Jamie Gorelick and Richard Ben-Veniste, who as Democratic partisans are one or two steps removed from James Carville. Ms. Gorelick was Hillary Clinton's eyes and ears at Janet Reno's Justice Department. Mr. Ben-Veniste was the party's designated sandbag man on the Senate's Whitewater probe. Among his statesmanlike acts was an invasion-of-privacy smear against Jean Lewis, the civil servant bank regulator who first made criminal referrals in the case. More nastiness than we have ever seen will be coming over the next two years. Expect the Rats to bring out every one of their rabid attack crew to go after the administration and the Republicans and every conservative position. Their desperate out of power position means they have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. Buckle up, the Lott thing is only the beginning.
