Is this guy a bigot...not wanting to meet with Condi because she's black? Or is it because she's a woman?

The issue here is that is the Condi meeting supposed to be a slight against the general because he wanted to meet with someone higher up with full diplomatic honors.

Sam, I can't figure this out. China is no longer communist. It's government has changed for the better due to trade. Everything is peaches and roses between our two nations. I mean they still shoot down our planes over international waters, but that's to be expected among friends. Whatever could the problem be?

Do you think Free Traders will come by to explain this for us?

They might try to explain it, but I won't believe it.

They have more to lose if they can conduct trade and create wealth.

"When goods don't cross borders; troops will"

a paraphrase of Bastiat.

Only now, when it is too late, will our militantly anti-American Chinese General realize that the Bubster isn't in the White House anymore.

His meeting with Condi will not be pleasant. And he will meet with Condi or he won't be meeting with anyone at all. You don't come to Bush's White House and demand to meet who you want to meet.

Last guy who tried to do that was Boris Yeltsin back in Bush I's White House. He ran into Condi Rice. Guess who won that engagement.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Yes and of course we don't have to worry about anything else crossing borders do we? You know like the military for instance. Ahhh, the military we've helped finance the buildup of along with our transfers of technology all in the name of being jolly good chaps. And those missiles are only capable of lauching satellites too right?

NEITHER RACE NOR SEX, PROBABLY.

It is about STATUS, RANK.

They want someone who ranks higher--preferably, of course, the President.

They read much into such nuances. Their pride also exceeds their reason though their reason has calculating in relationships down to an ancient art.

I think this would be one area where we could TRY and be clever--either decide to be nice to him or cold to him for various very valid reasons.

If nice, then have a relatively low level functionary meet with him in very pleban surroundings but act very smarmy toward him. Would steam him good. They are artists at that sort of thing but hate it when it's pulled on them.

If cold, then have a relatively high level person finally, grudgingly agree to meet with him but only in a fairly insulting context and then proceed to read him the riot act on a long list of things.

This would put him in his place.

But it would also guarantee that when the war comes, his vengeance and retaliation against hapless citizens and cities would be that much more ruthless and intense.

They are a potential danger; that is the gov of China. I would agree with the idea of military preparedness. I was however thinking that individual free citizens have more to protect and more to lose in war. It is my conjecture that more capitalism would lead to more freedom.

<< Sam, I can't figure this out. China is no longer communist. It's government has changed for the better due to trade ..... >>

..... and, to boot, has just appointed its most prolific mass murderer and most bloody awful ethnic cleanser [Tibet!] -- the monster first and most appreciative of the Tiananmen Massacre -- to head up the Peking-based mob of invading, coquering, colonizing, enslaving, mass-murdering, lying, looting, thieving, gangster bastards that grandiosely calls itself by that name.

That calls itself "china."

And has thus demonstrated that what in "china" anyway, passes for "FReedom," is, after all, divisible.

Governments that are well-financed don't lose control all that often. When citizens have a lot, they have a lot to lose by directly challenging their own government.

There isn't anyone higher than Ms Rice.

Long term, I have a lot of hope for China. A generation is maturing now that never lived under Mao. But short to medium term, its going to be spooky. The people in charge are nationalists and fascists, and are starting to feel their oats. Specifically, they think they might be able to take us, and some of their officers would like to try.

They are hooking up with all of our enemies, and trying to slip a noose around us while we are distracted.

Long term our business and academic relationships are planting changes that may eventually bear fruit. Short to medium, they are looking for the opportunity to clean our clock. Its going to get very interesting before its over.

Hope they don't try anything while we are tied up in Baghdad... And it would be nice if we and the Israelis would stop selling them weapons systems we may have to go up against one day...

I think that one could make the case that the more tyranical and less capitalist the more likely a Government will gamble on war.

The chinese have made strides but, we should be suspicious of the gov. That however does not mean individuals unrelated to the government of china should be barred from commerce and trade freely with other individuals.
