Rats in a Maze
by Jennifer King, Managing Editor

December 6, 2002

"The Heretical Housewife"

Today’s Democrats are in one heck of a pickle. In addition to losing the House and the Senate, they’re quickly losing every shred of their dignity as well. Not hard to do, with petty men like Daschle, Begala and Clinton still chained firmly to the DNC mast.

Conservative websites have increasingly and humorously begun to refer to the Democrats as ’Rats. This is a consequence of the 2000 Republican campaign ad, which Democrats decried as “biased” for lingering too long on the “rat” part of “Democrat” at the end. All of this feigned outrage, of course, only increased the visibility and subsequent hilarity of the ad. This ad, it should be remembered, stands in gentle contrast to the actual brutality of the “James Byrd dragging ad” and the “black church burning ad” put out by today’s thuggish win-at-all-costs-Democrats.

Over the past several weeks, the Dems have tried to atone for their spectacular and historic losses in the 2002 midterm campaigns. Variously, and in a concerted method worthy of their Politburo predecessors, they have lugubriously attacked their perceived enemies as the heirs of their ignominious defeat, while studiously ignoring the real reasons for their failure.

Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and the pitiful few conservative news outlets were vilified in carefully scripted and regimented appearances by Tom Daschle, Al Gore and most recently, Bill Clinton. In other words, the ghosts of ‘Ratdom Past. Conservative talk radio and the increasing importance of conservative internet sites were given the same old treatment - Hillary‘s fanciful “Right Wing Conspiracy“ yet again. We, the thinking public, are propagandized by those who think we still don’t get it and those who think we’re too stupid to recognize their tricks. We’re still supposed to believe that talk radio and the internet are populated by the “evil, angry white male”. The guy next door who puts down his BBQ tongs, dons a white robe and grabs his Bible before burning a cross on his Muslim neighbor’s lawn. The public increasingly scoffs at this preposterous preposition. Especially after 9/11.

The ‘Rats don’t get it and they ignore the public’s increasing media sophistication at their peril. Every person who has ever actually listened to Rush usually admits to finding him entertaining and cogent, even if they don‘t agree with his conservative ideology. He makes them think about their positions on the issues - pure anathema to liberals. Typical liberal gobbledygook and emotionalism cannot survive when faced with factual evidence which requires thinking. The same with Sean Hannity, who tempers his opinions with logic and twinkling Irish wit. These are the bogeymen who come in the night to steal our souls? Uh huh.

Unfortunately for the Left, their real message resonates poorly with Americans, which is why they hide it. The Leftist message - courtesy of Hegel, Marx and the Europeans- is one of repression, oppression and statism. The 20th Century alone should stand as a model of its’ failure. Utopianism is unobtainable on this earth - given Man’s proclivity towards sin and a fallen state. The willfully blind Left , determined to rid itself of even the vestiges of Judeo-Christian theology, hates to acknowledge the existence of sin, but sin exists, nevertheless.

The utopian state they lust after, of necessity requires the brutal oppression of free men who oppose it. Men who determine that their rights come not from other men, but from God. Men who will fight to the death before they submit to enslavement. Therein lies the eternal conflict, which lead to the slaughter of millions in the 20th Century alone. The conflagration is justified by the Left - as Stalin so memorably said, “what’s a few million kulaks” - in pursuit of their Holy Grail.

The Democratic Party, while it pretends to still be the party of the working man and the underclass, is not. After 1968, it was conquered by the neo-Marxist radicals - one of the foremost of whom was Hillary Clinton. They now stand opposed to most traditional American values. They are staunchly biased against religion - unless it happens to be that fanatical brand of Wahhabi Islamism which shares their antipathy towards the West. They coddle terrorists and dictators who appropriate the language of peace while waging war upon their own citizenry. In the true heritage of postmodernism, objective truth lacks all meaning.

Rank and file Democrats are no doubt bewildered by the change in their party. No doubt they disagree with its’ shrill anti-male feminists, its’ rabid pro-abortionists, its’ flaccid defense stand. No doubt that this distaste was reflected in the midterm elections. But until the Democrats can rid themselves of the Head 'Rat - the ultimate playboy postmodernist who didn’t know the meaning of the word “is” -they’ll be doomed to sail on to Charybdis, the screeching Furies still clinging to the helm. ***

The DemonRats are in one hell of a bind. They cannot appease the moderate swing-voters and the greenie enviro-socialists in their party at the same time. They have to decide whose vote they can afford to lose, and it looks like they've already to decided to move hard left. They might as well since they've obviously lost the swing-voters already. Seeing the DemonRats dancing on Paul Wellstone's grave the weekend before Super Tuesday didn't help them a bit, either.

Well, BLACK Muslim, maybe. If it's a Middle Easterner, we usually don't bother with the robe.

After 1968, [the Democrat party] was conquered by the neo-Marxist radicals - one of the foremost of whom was Hillary Clinton.

Sorry, but every time I read stuff like this I just have to shake my head. I strenuously object.

HRC was never "foremost" anything until her philandering husband won the Presidency. Most people didn't even know who she was until then.

I think that in their zeal to make her the focus of all that is evil on the Left (that is to say, in the world), some conservative pundits end up giving Hillary! far, far more credit than she EVER earned.

My brother-in-law is a life-long Democrat in his late 50s who is active in politics. On most issues I can't see him in agreement with his party's platform, but I'll be darned if he will ever consider voting or working for any party but the Democrats. I hope his is a dying breed.

I must STRONGLY disagree with this premise. Many of us were referring to them as RATS for a LONG time before that ad appeared. If anything, it was the conservative base which planted the idea in the mind of the admakers, not vice versa! Otherwise, this was a pretty good article.

Yes, they were DemonRats and Rats here well before that disputed ad. And when we call them Rats, we don't bother with that fiddly little apostrophe in front of the R.

HI Illbay,
I'm getting the HRC connection through her defense of Huey Newton in the murder of Betty Van Patter (via "Radical Son" and "Destructive Generation")

When you examine the old radical connections, it's amazing how many of them are in public office today. As a recent letter writer to our local newsrag wrote, "they cut their hair and shaved their beards, but their philosophy didn't change."

Hey, you could be right and probably are. The first time I encountered it "en masse" was on FR right after the ads. But, it's so fitting, isn't it! :-))

I was on the FOX forums before they pulled the plug and we were calling them RATS long before the ad came out. I am sure the Free Republic was on board early also.

"I think this was a wonderful article."

I agree with her sentiments but she needs to lay off the apostrophes.
