Bill Clinton Admits Democrats "Have" the Establishment Press, Conservatives Say "Keep It"
kristinn (using excerpts from The Washington Post) ^ | Wednesday, December 4, 2002 | Kristinn

Disgraced former President Bill Clinton, the first president to cop a plea with a prosecutor while in office, be found in contempt of court and impeached for lying under oath and obstructing justice, and a man who has been credibly accused of numerous rapes and sexual assaults from his college days through his terms as President of the United States, gave a post-election address to the Democratic Leadership Council at New York University yesterday where he let slip the fact that the Democratic Party has the establishment press on its side.

Clinton, in remarks that reinforce the theory that recent scathing criticism about conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh and right-leaning newspapers like The Washington Times and Wall Street Journal from fellow out-of-power Democrats Sen. Tom Daschle (S.D.) and former Vice President Al Gore are part of a coordinated campaign to demonize media critics while excusing the poor performance of the Clinton-led Democratic party in last month's elections, was quoted by The Washington Post as saying, "(The Republicans) have an increasingly right-wing and bellicose conservative press, and we have an increasingly docile establishment press."

For decades the "establishment press," consisting of The Associated Press, newspapers such as The New York Times, Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times, television networks ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and CNN and newsmagazines such as Time and Newsweek have denied their obvious bias towards liberal causes and Democratic politicians.

Conservative consumers of the news have long known otherwise and have sought and built news and commentary outlets that report the news without liberal bias.

That effort has reached fruition in the last few years with the dominance of conservative radio talk show hosts, conservative internet sites like The Drudge Report, FreeRepublic.com and Lucianne.com and the cable TV juggernaut Fox News.

Democrats, whose grip on the news and public opinion has finally been wrested from them now shake their fists in anger and hypocritically denounce conservatives for personal attacks on public figures, all the while ignoring their own long history of character assassination of figures like Ronald Reagan, Newt Gingrich and the current President Bush.

The days when the political agenda could be controlled by the Democrats with a well-placed story in The New York Times that was echoed on C-SPAN's Washington Journal and then trumpted on the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather are over. By the time Dan Rather gets around to it, the Democrats' planted story has been dissected and exposed as B.S. (Barbra Streisand) on the internet by posters at Free Republic, on the radio by Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and by an opinion piece at the National Review's website,NRO.com.

Later that evening on cable, while dinosaurs Phil Donahue and Larry King founder on the shoals of irrelevancy at MSNBC and CNN, respectively, the firebrands at Fox News will draw twice as many viewers by putting the final nails into the coffin of the news story planted by the Democrats in The New York Times that morning.

It's not that positive news about conservatives gets reported by news outlets like The Washington Times and The Wall Street Journal that bother Messrs. Clinton, Daschle, and Gore. It is that the Democrats' dominance of the news cycle no longer goes unchallenged in the major media arena and that as a result the voting public is seeing through their scams and ineffectual policies and voting Republican.

Bill Clinton and the Democrats can have their establishment press. Conservatives and our ideas are free from their obstructionist shackles.

Never thought I'd ever read that in the Wash Post.

Holy smokes, kristinn! When I first read the posting I thought the WashingtoComPost actually wrote that first, and subsequent, paragraphs! But then I noticed the "self" in the link LOL.

However, I still believe these people (Bubba and Hitllary) are extremely dangerous and we have to closely monitor what they are doing. I don't trust 'em as far as I can smell Ol' Crusty!

Returning from a trip to Mexico, indeed. Now, wasn't W or Powell just down there? What the hell is this piker doing? He has to keep his bulbuous nose in the limelight, either preceeding W, or following him, or members of his Cabinet, around the world.

Seems to me that what he is doing is still trying to rally his troops for '04 and beyond by doing this. I'm still quite wary of these two ... not afraid, very afraid -- YET, but quite wary.

Thus endeth my not-so-'umble screed.

Thanks for the post!

It's not from The Post. I based the essay on their story about Bill's speech yesterday. I ended up using less of their story than I thought I would but left the link because the story has some good tidbits in it. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks. A month after leading their troops into the big muddy yet again, Bill and Hillary stand before them saying, "Follow us!"

Their advice is always what's best for them, not for their party. One day the Rats will figure it out, maybe....

Great rundown of the paradigm shift in the news business which has occurred during the past decade.

Bump. And go apply for a job. We might as well take over ALL the news outlets now that we've on the move. :-)

One missing word. It should say "...whose [total] grip on the news and public opinion has been [partially] wrested from them....".

Nice writing, kristinn. Are you an essayist, or do you play one on TV? I keep wondering if the constant drumbeat against the "elite" media will make them less "elite". I sure hope so.

I too, had to do a double-take while reading the first paragraph. I thought that no way the ComPost would print something like that. Then I saw the self and your name. Good job!! It would be nice though, if one of the mainstream papers would report on X42 like you did. That's not a dream but a fantasy.

I like this whine. '"They have a destruction machine -- we don't," Clinton told his audience at New York University. "What was done to Tom Daschle was unconscionable," he said, "but our refusal to stand up and defend him was worse."'

the Disgraced Ex President whos name shall go unmentioned is worthy of the title 'clever tyrant' whom the electorate will place in power by virtue of his ability to tell them what they want to hear.

The Clintonista el-prezeedente will say absolutely anything to keep his royal butt in power and then make use of his 'rhodes scholarship' to weasle his way out of having told a gigantic lie. It is amazing that we still have people who are bamboozled by a chatacter who cant figure out the meaning of 'it'.

But here we have the democrats, who as a group are not so bad. Most democrats merely defend their party on historical grounds. They are kennedy democrats who are loyal to the party for the sake of RFK and JFK. Many of them are beholden to the dream of the sixties flowerchild whos dream of peace is constantly shattered by the need to be forever vigilant to a constant stream of threats. They worship a pacifism which abandons all reason to the altar of non-violence. These democrats in the face of overwhelming evidence of the malfeasance of the person they chose to be their leader, choose to ignore the danger. Like Roger Waters Sheep "Silently passing their time in the grassland away" and "Oh What a Surprise!!! That look of terminal Shock in their eyes!!!" "Nooooo, This is not a BAD DREAM!!!" Like a sick and codependent relationship of abuse they will excuse any wrongs and buy any excuse.

For these people so dedicated to party loyalty there is little hope of redemption. So it is up to us, the people who have not been beguiled by the clintonista madmen to go boldly forth to defend at the voting booth with the strength of numbers. To defend our right to have a voice, and defend our voice from those who seek to suppress it.

"We don't have to be more liberal, but we do have to be more relevant in a positive way," Clinton told the audience of about 200 at New York University.

Headline:

Clinton labels democrat party 'IRRELEVANT'

[/lmao]

And how well did the candidates that Clinton stumped for do?

Please Democrats, take heed of his advice.
