Who's a Moron Now? (Hint: He doesn't reside south of the U.S./Canada border.)

For Canada, it just can't get any more embarrassing.

The anti-Americanism of Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien's Liberal government was on display for the whole world to see last week.

At the NATO summit in Prague, Chrétien's communications director, Francoise Ducros, in an incredibly boorish move, called President George Bush a "moron." She did this in a media room with reporters present.

This piece of classless, juvenile name-calling was subsequently reported by news organizations around the world — to the detriment of Canada's reputation.

To make matters worse, Chrétien only accepted Ducros's resignation several days after the incident had become a hot item on US talk shows, and Iraq had exploited it for propaganda purposes in its own newspapers, forcing the Canadian Prime Minister’s hand.

In Prague, the Liberal contingent, headed by Chrétien, was upset because Bush was using the conference to garner support for the war against terrorism and an attack on Iraq. In doing so, the American President stepped on some toes by saying NATO countries must increase defense spending to meet these threats.

The truth be told, the Canadian military has been deteriorating since leftist Liberal Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, in whose cabinet Chrétien served, took power in 1968 and tried to pull Canada out of NATO the following year. When the resulting storm of protest caused him to back off, he set about accomplishing the same goal by letting the country's armed forces erode to the point where one retired general has now said that any military commitment Canada makes to a war against Iraq will constitute an embarrassment.

Some might call this underhanded, and I do.

In Prague, Chrétien's defense minister, John McCallum, angrily declared that defense spending was Canada's business and none of Bush's. But McCallum seems to have forgotten that the anti-American, Liberal government he serves has often itself interfered in America's internal affairs.

For example, Raymond Chrétien, Jean Chrétien's nephew and Canada's ambassador to Washington at the time of the 2000 presidential election, was quoted as saying Canada would prefer Al Gore as president, angering Bush and setting the future, frosty tone of Canadian relations with his administration.

Chrétien himself is on record as calling Bush's trade policies "stupid" and as saying that the greed and arrogance of the United States and the West served as an inspiration for 9/11. Another Liberal member of Parliament also compared any American attack on Iraq to Pearl Harbor, a piece of logic that continues to escape sane people.

What's sauce for the Canadian goose is evidently not sauce for the American gander, at least as far as Canada is concerned.

Nevertheless, besides embarrassing Canada on the world stage, the latest inexcusable Liberal blunder serves as a reminder of how deeply Bush and American conservatives are despised by the sneering, smirking, lib-left, pseudo-intellectual bunch that runs Canada. It is also another indicator of Chretien's lukewarm support for the American-led war on terrorism, evident right from the start.

Memo to Canadians: Don't pee on our head and tell us it's holy water.

Isnt it interesting how Bush never responds to all these attacks, yet he ends up winning in the end?

I think it is a lesson for all of us to learn that we dont always have to attack Liberals directly, because they want the resulting violent argument.

Letting them spew their rhetoric seems to do enough damage to them for them to lose credibility all by themselves. Look at Daschle and Gore, and how nutty they look for their recent attacks, and yet, they are the ones who look awful for it, while Bush never said a word in response.

Remember: It is "President Bush." Mr. Bush is the President of the United States. In warm-hearted parlance, I refer to President Bush as, "W". Since I love my President. So, it's President Bush or "W", okay? Maybe we can get those jack-asses from DU to respect our President when they lurke around here.

One of Bush's great advantages seems to be that his critics always underestimate him.

Yep!

AS Rush so eloquently points out, Liberals get funnier and more stupid the farther their grasp on power slips.

Right now their hands are full of canola oil.

The biggest fear the Northern Liberals fear right now is the USA closing the border with Cana-da!

They fear the billions in trade they make off us each year and as soon as Ridge gets ready to put the smack down on the Northern and Soutnern borders you will really see the Libs go crazy !

It's gonna happen so don't worry about it because they're doing it in small steps. Everything Bush does is in small steps and there was a show on TV about a month ago on the US-Mexican border and they are 1000% more active there then anyone would think. The border patrol is being beefed up and they are active. They've hired some 15,000 former military and plan on many more. Why this isn't in the press more I don't know but they are gearing up for more and more border closure.

My prediction is that Bush will announce some type of legal worker program mixed with some type of reprieve to illegals if they get sponsorship from their employers and pass background checks and then Tom Ridge announces a lock down on the borders?

Gawd!, I wish I could believe what you write. The borders have been my first concern (in terms of security) for a long time. And I have been watching and waiting for Bush to say something substantial regarding tightening up our borders. I'm still waiting...
Why he hasn't bitch slapped both Fox and Chretien is beyond my ken! Pray that we don't pay an awful price for not securing our borders. The next terrorist attack here in America is going on Bush's bill and the voters better be confident that W did EVERYTHING that he could to wage this war. He can be a one-termer too, if he squanders the public's faith in him.
