TAKING OFF KID GLOVES WITH CRIMINAL STUDENTS

November 30, 2002 -- THE 7-year-old girl was cornered in her Harlem schoolyard by four boys who demanded something she did not understand.

"And I'm not gonna leave you alone until you do it," one threatened.

Afterward, the child was treated like a criminal by officials at Community School 200, who blamed her for entering the yard with her attackers.

These policies are the result of 30 years of *court cases* where judges have ruled that disruptive students can't be removed from schools. The Americans with Disabilities Act and other "special ed students rights" laws and court cases have made it worse, because if a student "acts out" because of his "disability," it can represent "discrimination" to take him out of the mainstream classroom.

This isn't the wish of the school systems. It's been forced on them by the courts, at the behest of lawsuits brought by parents.
