Sex offender Richard Cullen throttled and battered a young mother to death after she derided his favourite character in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a court heard today.
Former devil worshipper Cullen, 44, of Swansea, South Wales, snapped when Elizabeth Sims-Rees, 21, called him a "nonce" for "fancying" the evil vampire Drucila.
Cullen and the young mother were watching the programme at his Gwilfa Road home when she made the fatal remark, Swansea Crown Court heard today.
An incensed Cullen, who admitted he once sacrificed dogs in rituals because their name spelt God backwards, then had sex with her dead body.
Prosecutor James Jenkins said the woman's comment "triggered a determined bout of violence towards her culminating in her death."
He said Cullen taped her hands at the wrists and then attacked her head with a rubber mallet with such violence he made five holes in it.
Finding her still alive despite the ferocious attack, he then throttled her with a shirt tightened round her neck using the mallet for leverage.
"He took a shirt to use as a ligature around her neck, putting his foot on her back and tightening the tourniquet until she was dead," Mr Jenkins said.
Cullen, who made a full confession after giving himself up to the police on June 23, admitted murdering the young mother the day before.
He was jailed for life by Mr Justice Richards who described the circumstances of the murder as "truly appalling".
Throughout the trial Cullen sat with his head lowered, taking his own notes of proceedings.
The court heard that after the murder Cullen carried the woman's body upstairs with the ligature still attached to her neck.
He then had sex with her dead body on three separate occasions.
Ian Sims-Rees, her brother, walked out of court holding his head in his hands as full details of the brutal murder unfolded.
Sharon Harlow, her mother, shouted "You're scum for what you did to that little girl" as Cullen was taken away.
Cullen had claimed that his victim had been effectively blackmailing him after finding photographs of him at his home dressed as a woman.
He claimed she would visit his home more often afterwards and borrow an occasional £5 which would never be returned.
He had destroyed all the photographs before going to the police, but left the crime scene untouched.

I wonder if the 21 year old had any idea she was watching television (alone?) in the home of a 44 year old sex offender/devil worshipper? I wonder how they became friends in the first place.

For most of time, men and women have assumed that the truth was there to be found out. This began to change in the 19th century and the change gathered pace in the 20th. As people began to question the existence of God, it became obvious to some, that the existence of truth requires the existence of God. With God dismissed, it became impossible to conceive of truth in any absolute sense. This has resulted in the humiliation of truth. Truth is now whatever you would like it to be.
Truth's demise has filtered down through the great centers of learning, the arts, and on into streets and homes. Everything is possible with truth gone. Everything is permissible. Musicians make music that doesn't sound musical. Painters paint pictures that are incomprehensible to normal folk. Playwrights write plays that are nonsense, and architects design buildings that no one can understand. All this is put forward as legitimate, but what does it all mean?
No matter how much... popular culture---is encouraged to believe in the relativity of truth, no one can build a decent life on such a notion.
Inevitably proponents of freedom from God, and from absolute truth, are obliged to reach outside of their own system, and borrow something from theism in order to make their lives work. The person who believes that everything is valid, will soon find that he is condemned to meaninglessness. Christ is a standing offer of escape from such a hell as this To believe that truth is like Christ, is salvation indeed.
Satan's other religion of peace, is Islam. They look similar to me.
