The campaign resumes / But politics as usual should not (HYPOCRITICAL MN Editorial)

The sad days since Paul and Sheila Wellstone's deaths have stirred the best of the Minnesota character. With only a few exceptions, Minnesotans have responded to the unprecedented demise of a major candidate 11 days before an election with grace, fortitude and a willingness to serve the common good.

Politics as usual wasn't sitting all that well with Minnesotans before last Friday -- and has been rendered unacceptable by events since then.

This editorial was obviously written before last night's political rally that pretended to be a memorial service for Wellstone took place. It will be interesting if the Star Tribune will similarly denounce what happened at that "memorial service" last night.

As seldom before, Minnesotans have been reminded since Friday afternoon that politics need not be a down-and-dirty business. It can be principled rather than cynical, high-minded rather than cold-blooded, impassioned rather than mean -- and that's what it should be now.

Overheard this morning at the Star: "AAAhhhhhh Mmmmmmmm Uhhhhhhh Oh my God, what were we thinking!!!"

Yeah, it will be INTERESTING to read what tomorrow's editorial will say. Somehow Methinks they will blame REPUBLICANS for turning the memorial service into a cheap poitical rally. Yes, that's just the ticket. It was the REPUBLICANS fault for ruining that memorial service by turning it into a political rally. Why? Because if Republicans didn't exist, then the speakers at that memorial service wouldn't have had to denounce them.

Don't kid yourselves. What we see as a cheap, disgusting partisan rally piled on top of Wellstones funeral will be seen by the Democrats and the editorial board as a wonderful example of the spirit and enthusiasm of their "progressive" breathren. You can't make a blind man see...

You're ALREADY right! I just saw coverage of that Memorial Service/Political Rally on the Today Show and that is exactly their take. It will be interesting to see what else they have to say on the Today show. I wonder if there will be the LEAST BIT of criticism there about turning that memorial service into a partisan rally.

Of course not. The crap that these media dumpsters put out are designed to keep the Republicans from doing what can win.

And what can win is driving Mondale's negatives up. Most of the voters in Minnesota see them selves as part of a socialist family. They see people out side the state as power brokers that will oppress them. They consistently vote for the guy that thumbs his nose at authority.

People look at Minnesota and wonder why they could support the war against Saddam and yet Wellstones poll numbers go up when he opposes it. It is typical Minnesota behavior. They will elect the guy that thumbs his nose at those in power.

The way to beat Mondale is to paint him the lackey of the Democratic party. He needs to be painted as the man who will do what Al Gore, Bill and Hillary Clinton and Terry McAuliffe tell him to do.

If Walter Mondale is painted as the hand maiden of the Democratic party he will be toast. This love fest last night could be used to do it.

The spots should hit hard. They should show Clinton and Mondale laughing at last nights ceremony. Is clinton sad Wellstone died or happy he has a willing helper who will do as he is told.

Minnesota is a sate that loves socialism and hates government and political parties If Mondale is presented as a lackey of the national Democratic party, he is toast.

Did you ever notice that most candidates in close races endorsed by Newspapers don't get elected. If newspapers could swing elections.. they would.

It is fascinating to see how the Today Show is handling the way the Memorial Service was converted into a blantantly partisan political rally. You know how they are doing it? After a brief clip at the beginning of the show, they are IGNORING it. Trust me. If a memorial service for a Republican had been turned into a political rally there would have been in-depth coverage of the event on the Today Show complete with guests bemoaning the political nature of such a memorial service.

I hope the Media Research Center posts something about the Today Show's lack of coverage on this since any sort of coverage would prove embarrassing to the Demmycrats.

Oh, and Senator Harry Reid---WHERE ARE YOU TODAY????

Unless your the democrats, then it doesn't matter. Expediency is the key.
