"Duck in a Noose" Discussion thread

"We have caught the sniper like a duck in a noose."

I would like to hear Freepers' comments about this still-bizarre statement relayed by the Moose from one of the sniper suspects. Most of you have read the story this quote seemed to reference; it features a rabbit that catches a duck in a noose, but the duck flies away, carrying the rabbit and dropping him in a hollow tree stump, where he is trapped for some time.

I see two possible interpretations:

First is the interpretation I have heard from all the news outlets and radio talk shows so far: One of the suspects (apparently the younger one) got too cocky and wanted to taunt the police, and then is promptly and ignominiously caught by police, proving the taunt impotent.

I worry about a second interpretation, though we may know for sure soon. It just seems a bit odd to me that he tells the police this story and is then caught almost immediately afterword, almost as if on purpose. In this scenario, the statement by Moose is indeed a signal (as was widely speculated upon among FReepers before the arrest) and a taunt. However in this scenario the duck is not just these two men; it represents their whole team. They are saying, "you will think you have caught us" (the phase we are in now), but you will be surprised (perhaps the phase that begins tomorrow).

Normally I would not buy into scenario number two, but it just seems too convenient that the men were arrested so quickly after this statement.

Comments and flames welcome. </tin foil>

I was thinking about this possibility also. It's not just that they were captured so quickly after this statement. Three other things contribute to this theory:

  1. the importance that they apparently ascribed to getting Police Chief Moose to make this statement;
  2. the fact that they were caught due to their intentionally telling police that they had committed murder in Montgomery, Alabama, and due to their continuing to travel on the Interstate highway system, in a car whose appearance was widely publicized, without any attempt to hide;
  3. the fact that they were captured without a fight.
Only time will tell. I hope this is just tin-foil speculation that proves to be groundless.

"We have caught the sniper, like a duck in a noose."-- Could the message have meant Chief Moose was a sitting duck? I was wondering and posted last nite that I wondered IF there would have been a shootout between them? Could that have been why Chief Moose was wearing a bulletproof vest the past week?? Afterall, we haven't been told what those messages were that they received, and Moose's demeanor changed, I thought he was a bit stressed and who knows what really was being said to him via those messages..

Maybe Chief Moose was just hungry and was thinking of all of those roasted Peiking ducks you see hanging by the necks in the windows of Chinese restaurants, you know ducks in noose's.

If he had said a "goose in a noose", he would have been refering to fois gras made from engorged goose livers made by forcing large armounts of ground corn down goose gullets. Of course, these are just my "foodie" thoughts on the matter.

I'm glad they caught these anti-American, Muslim scum.
