ROCKVILLE, Maryland (CNN) -- Investigators of the Washington-area sniper shootings Friday night seized a white box truck after a shell casing was found inside the vehicle at a Virginia car rental agency, Montgomery County Police said.

The caliber of the casing is unknown at this point. The casing and the truck are to be examined by forensics experts at an undisclosed location. The federal bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is expected to have results of ballistics testing on the shell casing no sooner than 9 a.m. Saturday.

The possibility exists that the rental car employee planted the shell there and "found" it so that he would attract a lot of attention and press. If so, it worked like a charm!

Think the "pros" returned the rental truck with the shell casing still in it, after they captured the snipers and sent them off to Guantanimo? ;^)

Didn't the police and/or FBI check the rental agencies records for white box truck rentals?

Looks like the person cleaning the returned truck gets the $500,000(?) reward, assuming the rental records lead to the sniper's arrest and conviction.

If he did that he will be in more deep s**t than the witness who lied about the HD sniper sighting.

It is just too easy to find out who was last to rent that truck.

wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Things will be going in unorthodox manners for the next decade in law enforcement...

star chambers and black ops have ALWAYS had their place in national security... and since clinton gutted same during his tenure... we can assume that a few "extreme prejudice ops" here will occur, where the terrorists are living as resident or, thanks to clintong, us citizens of islamic descent.

Would a black ops guy plant evidence to cover tracks of his team members AFTER the job is done?

JUST consider this...

Would they charge the one guy with multiple felonies for giving a false description of the hitter, if they don't already have a proven description nailed down in a cell somewhere, hard and fast?

that is to say... they KNOW the guy gave false testimony, most plausibly because they already have the perps nailed... and can prove it...

they have not anounced the arrest and the names because it is an ongoing investigation of an al qaida cell and all it's connections...

give it about two to three weeks... for them to finish interrogating the perps and infiltrating the rest of their upline connections. If I am right, we will see it unfold somewhat then.

believe what you want. makes no difference to me.

regardless, keep your powder dry.

I don't think your assumption is that far fetched. We were told that authorities planned to go to Gitmo to ask questions and we also know, all is quiet in MD, VA and DC area

If the shooting stops, GOOD. Do we always get the whole story? Nope.

He was charged with a misdemenor, not a felony or multiple felonies.

Or they have video of him in the store when he claims to be outside witnessing the shooting. He is a two-bit liar.

I hope you don't mind but I'm going on a personal crusade to correct the media definition to the correct term. It's a cartridge case.

More plausibly because he was in the store at the time. Must have been one of those pesky store cameras with the time and date.

It only takes a cheapo micrometer from Ace Hardware to mic a shell casing neck to see what caliber it is. Some casings have the caliber on the rim near the cap.

Shooter, ya just can't make it clear enough--got any sausage pics to compare it with?!!!

"shell casing" is somewhat redundant anyway--like "outer-cover"

At one time during this I even wondered if the industry had changed the definitions so I checked my reloading manuals. Nope, they didn't.
I also want to call my local News station. They insist on showing a CAR-15 with a pistol cartridge magazine attached which is a bold faced lie. The icing on the cake is they reversed the negative.

[Before anyone mentions it, there are 9MM and 10MM CAR's.]

Some cartridge cases have the caliber stamped on the head around the primer.
