We know the Law Enforcement community uses profiling to get some clue as to the identities and motives of serial killers.

I propose we make up our own profile, based on what we know , and I invite all Freepers , who think they have a useful idea to contribute, to add their thoughts to this post.

I'd like to kick things off with a discussion of the TIMELINE involved in these shootings. What does it suggest to you ?

Is it just me, or doesn't it seem unlikely (yet possible) that a crack shot could be a 16 year old?

Hitting a torso, or even a head, from 100 to 150 yards on a stationary target does not take a "crack shot". I could have done it when I was 16, with my friend's 22 rifle. Without a scope.

At 20, in the Army during my 8 weeks basic training, I qualified as "expert" with the M-1 rifle. Part of the drill was a torso at 800 yards - no scope. A 16 year old may take a few weeks longer.

It is quite likely for a teenager/young adult these days to be an excellent shot for one reason: violent video games. A former military psychologist (Grossman) has been clamoring about this for several years. He was appalled to find that the video games kids are playing are almost identical to what is used in the military for training. He points out that many of the school shooters played these games. The games do two things: improve accuracy and desensitize.

"Unfortunately, I believe the only thing that would deter this would be to pass concealed carry nationwide. I say "Unfortunately" because THAT'S not likely to happen. I'd be REALLY suprised if there will be any sniping in Vermont.

I think this is one of the few situations where CCW wouldn't really do much good. Shooter is probably gone (dropped down out of sight, headed for vehicle in other direction) before anyone knows what's happening, and 100+ yards is pretty much out of practical pistol-popping range.

Har - I guess I'm relying on my own personal experience, as opposed to my brother in Boy Scout camp, who used to hit the clothespins holding up the targets because it was too easy - and I'm talking bolt .22 rifles from prolly WW I (he got kicked off the range, of course.)

You're right. Oliver North mentioned some time ago about Marine's, I believe, using similator's or games to practice their shooting. Don't know if I could find the article or not. I remember hearing it so it could have been on talk radio program.

Video games have no effect at all on shooting skills. They have to be learned with the real thing. Video games develope a person's ability to think fast and use hand controls. That's it. They also don't excercise moral judgement. That's what Grossman was trying to address and focus on, but didn't do so well, because he didn't separate out the fundamentals.

I know its thought that these killings are random. BUT, this one may have be a planned assassination. Getting back at a cop.

O'd like to know if any of the other victims were either related to or GOOD FRIENDS of any of the cops.

But, I see one that just may have been PLANNED.

I think between 18 and 29, divorced with kids who live some distance away, ex-wife is employed at or used to go shopping a lot at Michaels, thus the divorce. He loses his job, maybe a dot.commie and can't buy gas to go see them. But he has his house stocked with weaponry just like in the movie "Joe", if you can remember that one.

16 may have difficulty accessing the vehicles...there are plenty of 18-23 y.o. deliverymen, service personnel, etc. Truck rentals in the area would be too easily cross referenced for the days in question. Company vehicles, OTOH, would have to have service routes, calls, deliveries, etc. carefully examined, and as such, may not indicate any discrepancies if the trucks were within normal service areas. A previous poster mentioned the possibility of a vending machine service, which I found intruiging. The thing I've not seen brought up is the possibility of magnetic vehicle signs...relatively cheap w/ professional graphics, if indeed, the truck in question is even related to the shootings which it only seems to be in the most circumstantial of ways at this point.

RED DRAGON- I saw this movie tonight...it was very good. I was surprised though when the cops were profiling the serial killer in the movie and said 'He thinks he's a God' (almost exact words I think)..because he had other peoples lives in his hands. I just thought it was a coincidence.
